YoungBoy Never Broke Again Climbs Through The Charts

Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, or better known as YoungBoy Never Broke Again, was arrested earlier this March. When FBI, troops busted the 21-year-old rapper and indicted him on weapons and drug charges.

Apart from becoming one of hip-hop’s biggest names, Gaulden is not a mainstream artist. He barely received radio time and has never preformed on television. Still he created a decent career for himself.

    In and Out

Since his been a teenager, YoungBoy Never Broke Again has always been in and out of jail. As a matter of fact, at this very moment, he is awaiting trial in his home state of Louisiana. Waiting for charges by possessing a gun while as a felon. Prosecutors called him a danger to the community.

YoungBoy’s new album, Sincerely Kentrell marks his fourth release in the span of two years. Hitting No. 1 on the Billboard charts. In the middle of it, he also managed to reach the Top 10 with other two mixtapes that made him a poster child for the new wave of streaming.

Moreover, he ended up dethroning the four-week run of sales made by Drake’s Certified Lover Boy.

Sincerely Kentrell ended up selling to 137,000 units. This release bested the highly awaited album of Lil Nas X.

There’s a difference when it comes to comparing other chart-topping albums from YoungBoy. He has no features on it. “I haven’t really seen something like this in hip-hop,” said Lanre Gaba an executive for black voices in music.

He also mentioned that YoungBoy isn’t the type of artist to be gate-kept, and that makes his fan base stronger than others.

Even though his music took off online, it seems that he’s on his way of making a $2 million deal with Atlantic Records and struggled with financial issues.
