Young Thug Gets Support From Quavo: Rapper Attends Court Hearing

Quavo, a famous rapper and former member of the Migos, was seen at the trial of his close friend Young Thug. His presence at the event went far beyond the usual courtesy; it was a strong moral support for Young Thug, who undoubtedly needs it in this challenging period of his life.

Quavo and Young Thug have a long history of cooperation; they have released several joint singles. Such a well-established relationship in the musical field implies the existence of friendships in the outside world.

Young Thug, while being a prominent figure in the music industry, has not had many visitors to the court. Only his family came to see him several times. Other visitors, as it turned out later, were kept aside. This was breached during Quavo’s visit. His presence indicates that something significant is happening for mere music.

Several hip-hop artists are close to Young Thug. They and the others hope for the case to be solved. Some are reluctant to get near the artist in legal trouble. But, the colleagues’ visit might turn everything around. Hence, the actions of Quavo sum up colleague support.

Thug was last arrested in 2018 on RICO charges. He was also accused of leading gang activity, with the prosecutor alleging that he leads a criminal gang known as YSL. However, Thug denied any cooperation with the gang and is currently on bail. Thug’s hearing for the RICO case was conducted on April 18, 2023. Quavo, the rapper’s friend, graced the hearing, entering the courtroom donned a “Free Thug” signpost.

The hearing aimed to establish whether the content of Thug’s lyrics could be used against him in court. The prosecutor argued that the lyrics were clear evidence that linked Thug with criminal activities, while the defense insisted the lyrics fall within the Gamble test.

As of now, the judge has not determined the admissibility of the lyrics as evidence, and the trial is expected to commence in May 2023. Thug’s case has cast a spotlight on using rap lyrics as evidence in criminal court cases. Some argue that using rap lyrics as evidence is unjust because it criminalizes rappers for creating art. Conversely, others say that charging rappers with repercussions is an appropriate measure.
