Rihanna’s Super Bowl Press Release Similar to Prince Controversy

When Prince was announced as the halftime performer for Super Bowl XLI, it looked like an epic musical moment for the Purple One. He had spent the past few months performing his Musicology album on a stage shaped as his “Love Symbol” at arena venues across the globe, and the NFL was ready to put the show on the field.

The day before the game, the anthem singer and halftime act would be scheduled to meet with the media for a press conference. But Prince had something up his sleeve, telling halftime show producers that he didn’t like interviews and would prefer to do the actual halftime show on-stage.

Despite Prince’s apparent disdain for the pre-game interview, his manager Don Mischer did his best to convince him to change his mind. But with less than three days to go before the big game, Prince realized he had no option but to give it a go.

For those who don’t remember, many people are still talking about Prince’s amazing 2007 Super Bowl Halftime performance. It was a show that almost sucked the attention away from the game itself.

    Prince’s Halftime Performance

The XLI halftime show is now the longest 12-minute show in NFL history, and it has become synonymous with Prince’s extraordinary talents as a performer. He performed a set that included his iconic songs “Purple Rain” and “Let’s Go Crazy.”

But this was just the beginning of his psychedelic musical journey. Earlier that year, Prince had released his second album in just over two years, a collection of music that would prove to be his most cohesive and honest work to date. The result was a record that showcased the creative freedom his label had finally given him.

‘Controversy’ is an excellent introduction to the Prince sound, with songs that are as fun as they are inspiring. The title track is a perfect example of the kind of song that could become an instant classic, while “Let’s Work” and “Sexuality” are more of the rock-oriented fare the Purple One has always been known for.

Rihanna‘s Super Bowl Halftime Press Conference

This press conference will forever go down in history, and our only hope is that Rihanna will have something unpredictable up her sleeve for her Super Bowl press conference this year.
