Philadelphia Restaurant Goes Viral for $55 Caviar Pizza Slices

One slice of pizza in Philadelphia now costs $55 and yes, it actually does come loaded with caviar. The new and very extravagant menu item was added to Marina’s Pizza Co.’s menu by their restaurant branch located in Fishtown on May 22, 2026. Almost immediately after its addition, everyone on social media had something to say about the new pizza and photos and videos were being posted all over X, Instagram, Tiktok, and Reddit.

The dish is a large white pizza slice featuring a blend of imported Italian cheeses fresh mozzarella, shredded mozzarella, and 48-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano on a 48-hour fermented dough made from a 60-year-old family starter passed down from owner Mason Lesser’s Italian grandfather. The real showstopper is the full one-ounce jar of premium golden Osetra caviar from supplier Caviar XS.

Diners get it served on an antique gold plate (which stays at the restaurant) with a mother-of-pearl caviar spoon they get to keep as a souvenir. You can have the staff spoon the caviar on tableside or do it yourself. It’s dine-in only with limited quantities each day, and it sells out fast.

For context, regular slices at Marina’s normally run around $4 to $5. Owner Mason Lesser, a 25-year-old former professional surfer who opened the shop in late 2025, says the extravagant item was designed to stand out in a competitive scene.

“This is something over-the-top to celebrate Philadelphia’s big year with America’s 250th anniversary, the FIFA World Cup, and other major events coming up,”

Lesser explained in statements to local media.

Philadelphia Inquirer food writer Michael Klein tried the slice and gave it a surprisingly positive review:

“The warm, cheesy, rich pizza provides the perfect fatty, creamy base. The ice-cold caviar adds a gentle pop, buttery finish, and clean salinity that complements rather than overwhelms the cheese. Add a squirt of fresh lemon for extra brightness.”

Online reactions have been all over the place. Some users joked about it being “anchovies on steroids” or questioned if it even counts as pizza at that price. Others expressed curiosity, with comments like “I’ll have three, please” mixing with criticism calling it an elitist gimmick. Food bloggers praised the unexpected flavor harmony between the salty caviar and cheesy base.

This story fits into a bigger American trend of luxury comfort food mashups created specifically to blow up online. From gold-dusted burgers to truffle fries at fast-casual spots, restaurants are leaning into these viral stunts for free publicity and buzz. Whether you think the $55 caviar slice is genius or absurd, it’s definitely putting Marina’s Pizza Co. on the national map.

Would you try it? The shop is at 1425 Frankford Ave. in Fishtown just don’t forget your appetite for adventure and maybe a little extra cash.
