North West wants a regular job. The 13-year-old, already deep into a music career, told Dazed she plans to apply at Starbucks once she turns 14 next year.
In the cover interview for the magazine’s autumn 2026 issue, published online August 24, journalist Marios Mystidis asked what she would do if she were not an artist and whether her earlier interest in basketball still held. North answered directly. “No, it’s not. What would I be? I still wanna work. I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year. I think I can next year ’cause I’m gonna be 14, so… I think I can. I want to have a regular job, I guess.”

North, born June 15, 2013, in Los Angeles to Kim Kardashian and Ye, released the six-track project N0rth4evr on May 1, 2026, through Gamma. She produced the songs herself. The record mixes rage rap, emo, hyperpop and rock elements and includes tracks such as “W0ah,” “Aishite” and the title cut.
She has already stepped onto festival stages. North joined Molly Santana during the rapper’s set at Rolling Loud in Orlando earlier this year and made her first solo festival appearance at Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash in Bridgeview, Illinois, in June. She told Dazed she wished those moments had come sooner. “Yeah, I wish I’d done it earlier, though. I’ve been ready.” Her ideal day, she said, is rehearsal followed by studio time, or a big show.
The worst advice she has received, according to the interview, was to wait before starting a career. “It’s like, nah, this is my hobby, this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life.” She named Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape as a major influence and listed artists including Bktherula, Baby Osama and Babyxsosa among those she follows. Hatsune Miku remains a style reference for the blue twin-tail hair that has become part of her public look.
Starbucks maintains a company-wide minimum hiring age of 16 for barista and most store roles across the United States. Federal law allows limited work at 14 with restrictions, and California issues work permits at that age, but the chain’s own policy sits above those floors. North lives in California. Security and public attention would also complicate any ordinary retail shift for the eldest child of two of the most photographed people in the world.

North has spent nearly her entire life in public view. She appeared in her father’s 2014 video for “Only One,” attended fashion events as a young child, and has been documented on family reality television. At 13 she is treating music as more than a side project while still voicing a straightforward wish for an ordinary first job. Whether Starbucks ever becomes part of that picture remains outside the interview’s scope. The statement itself is clear. She wants the experience.
