Philadelphia Mills Shooting Leaves 1 Dead

A gunman fired fatal shots at the Philadelphia Mills food court Monday afternoon. The mother of the young man killed in the shooting now pleads for justice. According to 6abc Action News, a large fight broke out inside the mall. The suspect then fired multiple times, hitting 21 year-old Dominic Billa in the chest, killing him. The Philadelphia Mills shooting leaves Nakisha Billa, mother of the victim, grieving and outraged.

Nakisha Billa drives a bus for SEPTA and was picking up passengers near the mall just after the incident. She said, “I had a passenger get on and I was saying, ‘What in the world is going on at the mall?’ And he said, ‘Ma’am, somebody just got shot up in the mall.’ And it happened to be my son.” The Philadelphia Mills shooting made Nakisha Billa’s worst fear a heart-wrenching reality. “My worst fear was of losing my son,” she said. “That’s my worst fear. I did everything I could to keep him protected. I didn’t want him to go outside.”

Dominic Billa was the stepson of a detective in the district attorney’s Homicide/Non-Fatal Shooting Unit. District Attorney Larry Krasner expressed his heartfelt condolences to the detective and Mr. Billa’s loved ones. “We are outraged over the violence that claimed the life of this young man.”

The Philadelphia Mills shooting continues as an ongoing investigation with no suspects identified. No other shoppers suffered critical wounds. However, as they stampeded to cover, they trampled over Denise Mayer and 9-year-old son, Jaylen. A $20,000 reward lays in wait to anyone with information that could lead to an arrest and conviction in the case.
