Patrick Schwarzenegger Frustrated by ‘White Lotus’ Nepotism Accusations

Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist Maria Shriver, is making headlines for more than just his famous family. The 31-year-old actor has become a standout star in the upcoming third season of HBO’s hit series The White Lotus. But instead of simply celebrating his success, Patrick is addressing the criticism he faces for being labeled a “nepo baby.”

In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, Patrick opened up about how it feels to constantly have his achievements questioned.

“Sometimes I wish I didn’t have my last name,” he confessed. “But at the end of the day, I wouldn’t trade my life for anything.”

Despite being born into one of Hollywood’s most recognizable families, Patrick wants people to know he didn’t simply walk onto the set of The White Lotus.

“I’ve spent over a decade in acting classes. I’ve been in countless school plays. And I’ve faced more rejection than most people would believe. Hundreds of auditions — 99.9% of them were rejections.”

In The White Lotus season 3, Patrick plays Saxon Ratliff, the eldest son of a wealthy family. While some critics suggest his family name got him the part, Patrick insists otherwise. The role came after a rigorous audition process, one he initially kept secret from his family.

“I didn’t tell anyone. The competition was fierce. I wasn’t sure I’d get it.”

But when he finally landed the role, his family’s reaction made it all worthwhile. His brother-in-law, actor Chris Pratt, praised his performance, saying he was “proud” of Patrick’s work. His mother, Maria Shriver, who’s always been a fan of The White Lotus, was over the moon.

While Patrick acknowledges the privileges that come with his family background, he’s quick to point out the pressures too.

“There’s this assumption that everything’s handed to me. But being part of a famous family means you’re constantly proving yourself.”

Chris Pratt even helped Patrick prepare for the audition. However, that didn’t mean Patrick had an easy ride. The actor spent six and a half months filming in Thailand, a demanding schedule that tested his dedication.

The conversation around nepotism in Hollywood is nothing new. In recent years, the term “nepo baby” has become popular, describing celebrities who benefit from family connections. For Patrick, these accusations sting, but they don’t define him.

“It’s frustrating when people overlook your hard work. But I choose to stay focused on my growth.”

Patrick continues to take weekly acting classes, sharpening his skills.

“I’m still learning, still growing. This isn’t a hobby for me; it’s my passion.”

Patrick’s journey in the entertainment industry hasn’t been limited to The White Lotus. His diverse acting credits include roles in films like Midnight Sun (2018) alongside Bella Thorne, the psychological thriller Daniel Isn’t Real(2019), and Netflix’s Moxie (2021). He also made appearances in TV shows like Scream Queens and Gen V. His upcoming film Billy Knight, starring alongside Al Pacino, is already generating buzz.

But Patrick’s ambitions go beyond acting. He’s also an entrepreneur, having launched a clothing line and invested in wellness ventures. These endeavors showcase his desire to create his own path, independent of his family’s fame.

In 2012, he faced a serious ski accident that required major shoulder surgery and a long recovery.

“It was tough, but I learned resilience. That experience taught me how to push through pain — both physical and emotional.”

That resilience is evident in his approach to Hollywood’s harsh judgments.

“I understand where people are coming from. Nepotism is real in this industry. But I want people to know that I’m committed to earning my place.”

Patrick Schwarzenegger knows the road ahead won’t be easy. The shadow of his famous surname will likely follow him throughout his career. But with a decade of training, a growing list of diverse roles, and an unwavering dedication to his craft, he’s determined to prove that he’s more than just Arnold’s son.

As The White Lotus season 3 draws closer, all eyes will be on Patrick. And maybe, just maybe, the conversation will shift from who his father is to who Patrick Schwarzenegger is becoming — a dedicated actor carving his own path in Hollywood.
