Latto Blames Cardi B Diss on Pregnancy Hormones: What Happened?

Latto is opening up about the inspiration behind one of the most-discussed lyrics on her new album Big Mama, confirming that a line fans interpreted as a shot at Cardi B was, in fact, directed at the Bronx superstar.

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, the Atlanta rapper addressed the speculation surrounding a lyric on the project and explained that it stemmed from personal hurt rather than an attempt to ignite a feud.

“Yes, it was about Cardi,” Latto said. “I rap about what’s going on in my life. I was at an early stage of my pregnancy and I rushed to the studio to do this verse for her first-week sales [on the ‘ErrTime’ Remix]. Literally like two days later, I’m seeing all over the internet I’m being called p***y. I’m pregnant, emotions tied. And it was someone I deadass looked at as a friend.”

The comments arrive just weeks after the release of Big Mama, which dropped in late May and finds Latto embracing motherhood as a central theme throughout the project.

The tension between the two artists dates back to September 2025, when Cardi enlisted Latto for the remix of “ErrTime” during the rollout of her album Am I The Drama? At the time, the rappers appeared to be on good terms, having previously teamed up on their 2023 collaboration “Put It On Da Floor Again.”

However, the relationship reportedly became strained after leaked audio from a phone conversation surfaced online. In the recording, Cardi could be heard making derogatory remarks about Latto while discussing another situation, sparking widespread conversation among fans.

According to Latto, the timing of the leak made the situation particularly difficult.

“I was pregnant and emotional at the time,” she explained. “It wasn’t a diss, it was where I was in life.”

Fans quickly connected the dots after hearing a lyric on Big Mama standout “Gimme Dat,” where Latto raps: “Bitch said what? Let’s clock it / Really got a Hermes store in my closet / Talkin’ ‘bout buyin’ Big Mama a bag like my n***a ain’t already bought it.”

Many listeners viewed the bars as a response to Cardi’s September 2025 apology on X, in which the Grammy-winning rapper said she “f***s with Latto HEAVY,” expressed respect for her and offered to privately purchase a designer bag as a peace offering.

While discussing the situation on The Breakfast Club, Latto revealed that the two have not spoken directly since collaborating on “ErrTime,” though she acknowledged receiving a private message from Cardi months later. Asked whether a conversation could happen in the future, Latto said she remains open to it.

“When, I don’t know,” she added.

For her part, Cardi has continued to speak positively about Latto in interviews, frequently naming her among the female rappers she supports. As of publication, Cardi has not publicly responded to Latto’s latest remarks.

Despite fan speculation, Latto’s comments suggest the issue was rooted more in disappointment over a damaged friendship than a full-fledged rap rivalry. With Big Mama, the rapper has largely focused on documenting a transformative chapter in her life, balancing her evolving career with motherhood and personal growth.
