New details from Lil Durk’s federal murder-for-hire trial have revealed that Offset may have stepped in to block an early retaliation attempt against NBA YoungBoy, Quando Rondo, and their 4KT associates in Atlanta just weeks after King Von’s death.
According to testimony from cooperating witness Kavon Grant, known as OTF Vonnie, prosecutors read group chat messages attributed to Durk from around December 30, 2020. In one message Durk wrote that the crew had obtained the location of “YB and nem,” noted that the target was out at a club that night, and then referenced Offset’s input: “Set said Chicago only, but in the A, they think we sweet.” Court observers and multiple reports identified “YB” as NBA YoungBoy and “Set” as Offset.
The messages came less than two months after King Von was fatally shot on November 6, 2020, outside an Atlanta hookah lounge during a confrontation involving Quando Rondo’s circle. Von, a close friend and OTF signee of Durk, died from his injuries. The killing intensified the long-running friction between Durk’s Only The Family camp and the side tied to YoungBoy and Quando. Online pressure, including public trolling urging Durk to “slide for Von,” mounted in the weeks that followed.
Vonnie, who worked as Durk’s personal assistant and has pleaded guilty while cooperating with prosecutors, testified that Durk expressed frustration over the lack of action after Von’s death. Additional texts from the same period showed Durk telling the group he was not celebrating because “my dawg dead and nun happen,” and stressing that “Von is me, Von is y’all.” The December message about having the location and Offset’s reported stance is being widely interpreted as Offset discouraging any move inside Atlanta and limiting potential activity to Chicago.
These claims surface amid Durk’s ongoing trial in Los Angeles, where he faces federal charges of conspiracy and murder-for-hire tied to a 2022 shooting that killed Quando Rondo’s cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson. Prosecutors allege the 2022 attack was part of a broader effort to target Quando in retaliation for Von’s death. Durk has pleaded not guilty. His defense has argued that cooperators like Vonnie organized key logistics themselves and are shifting blame to secure lighter sentences.
No public statement from Offset addressing the specific “Chicago only” claim has emerged in the immediate coverage.
