The Los Angeles Police Department has obtained surveillance footage from the Hollywood Hills home where singer D4vd (David Anthony Burke) had been living, as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
Authorities executed a search warrant at the property last month, seizing footage from multiple security cameras that may show who entered or left the home before Celeste’s death. The home’s owner, Malden Trifunovic, confirmed to TMZ that the cameras record all activity outside the house. He said he believes the footage could be crucial in helping police track Celeste’s final movements.
Trifunovic said he does not personally have access to the video feeds to protect tenants’ privacy.
“I haven’t seen any of the footage,” he said, adding that he’s asked LAPD for a copy of the search warrant and an itemized list of what officers took but has not received a response.
Six weeks after Celeste’s body was found, and with few public updates from investigators, Trifunovic has hired a private investigator to look into what happened. “Our private investigator’s work is still ongoing,” he said. “I want to respect both the LAPD’s investigation and the memory of the victim.”
Trifunovic said his property was “placed at the center of a serious investigation when it shouldn’t have been,” and he’s seeking independent answers.
Celeste’s decomposed body was discovered on September 8, 2025, in the trunk of a Tesla registered to D4vd. The car had been towed three days earlier after sitting on a nearby street for weeks. Tow yard staff reported a foul odor, which led to the shocking discovery.
After running away several times throughout the year, Celeste had been reported missing from her Lake Elsinore home in April 2024. Her body was found one day after her 15th birthday, though authorities believe she had been dead for several weeks.
On September 17, LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division searched the Hollywood Hills rental, collecting bags of evidence including computers, electronics, and possible blood samples, according to sources.
So far, no suspects have been named or arrests have been made. Police said D4vd is cooperating and has not been labeled a suspect.
The investigation’s biggest holdup is the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s pending report on Celeste’s cause of death. “It remains unclear whether there is any criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body,” the LAPD said.
Until that determination is made, authorities are treating it as a death investigation, not a homicide. Law enforcement sources told ABC News that toxicology and lab results are still pending.
When asked for updates, District Attorney Nathan Hochman said only that the case remains active.
Following the discovery, D4vd canceled his Withered 2025 World Tour, postponed the release of his upcoming deluxe album, and moved out of the Hollywood Hills home. His last social media post—on the day Celeste’s body was found—was a promotion for that album.
Property records show that the 19-year-old singer transferred ownership of two homes in Houston to his mother shortly after police searched his Los Angeles residence. The first transfer came the same day a swatting incident occurred at one of the homes, when a false emergency call brought armed officers to the property.
Friends who attended gatherings with D4vd and Celeste told TMZ that the pair appeared to be a couple, though many believed she was a 19-year-old USC student—claims later proven false. Detectives now review videos and photos showing them together and think they met online.
Celeste’s family and community held a vigil on September 21 in Lake Elsinore, followed by a private burial on October 6 in Rowland Heights.
The seized surveillance footage could become a turning point in the case—potentially revealing whether Celeste visited the Hollywood Hills home and helping investigators piece together the final hours of her short life.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division or submit an anonymous tip to LA Crime Stoppers.
