The youngest Ball brother, LaMelo ball and his manager, Jermaine Jackson have purchased his former Australian NBL team, the Illawarra Hawks. The potential top pick in the 2020 NBA draft decided to play a season in the Australian basketball league to become eligible for the NBA draft.
According to LaMelo Ball’s manager, Jermaine Jackson, “We own the team,” referring to the Illawarra Hawks. However, the Hawks have not commented on the sale, as reported by ESPN.
LaMelo’s Time In Australia
During his time in Australia, LaMelo Ball joined the NBL through their Next Stars program. The 6’7 point guard showcased his skills, averaging 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.0 assists in 12 games with the Hawks.
Jackson expressed LaMelo’s affection for the Illawarra fans and the community, stating that they made him feel at home. LaMelo’s desire to make Australia part of his future led him to want to own the struggling Illawarra Hawks and strengthen the team with more American talent. The goal is to create an exceptional basketball program for the community.
