Kid Cudi is clapping back with fierce conviction, shutting down wild claims that he derailed a Kanye West and Drake collaborative album. In a fiery Instagram Story video posted on September 18, 2025, the rapper addressed allegations from Consequence, a former G.O.O.D. Music associate, who implied Kid Cudi not only blocked the Ye-Drake project but also played a role in Kanye’s 2016 mental health crisis.
Kid Cudi called the accusations “extremely false” and “pretty f**king disturbing,” making it clear he’s not letting these claims slide. Consequence’s allegations dropped on Instagram around September 15, 2025, suggesting Kid Cudi’s work on the 2018 album Kids See Ghosts with Kanye West sidelined a rumored Ye-Drake project, tentatively titled Calabasas Is the New Abu Dhabi.
The claims, sparked by resurfaced 2018 studio footage tied to Kanye’s upcoming documentary In Whose Name? (releasing September 19, 2025), also linked Kid Cudi to Kanye’s 2016 hospitalization, alleging he encouraged drug use. Kid Cudi didn’t mince words in his response:
“Let me be clear.I had nothing to do with Kanye not doing that collab album with Drake. And I damn sure had nothing to do with him being hospitalized and going to the psych ward.” He stressed Kanye’s independence, saying, “We all know Kanye gonna do whatever Kanye want to do. What I look like going up to him and being like, ‘Yo, I don’t want you to do this album,’ and him being like, ‘Okay.’ Yeah, right, in what universe?”
Kid Cudi also tackled the drug-related claims head-on, stating,
“I’ve never even been a pill guy in my life. Like, niggas know me. I don’t do pills, fam.” He revealed his team sent a cease-and-desist letter to Consequence, demanding the post’s removal and a retraction. “We sent a cease-and-desist and told him to take it down and retract his statement.”
He waited two days to take it off Twitter, still hasn’t retracted his statement,” Kid Cudi said. He issued a direct ultimatum:
“I need to get a retracted statement tomorrow… saying that that is extremely false, and if not, you’ll be hearing from my lawyer, period. I’m gonna hit you in them pockets. That little bit of change you got gonna be mine.”
The rapper didn’t stop there, expressing frustration with media outlets for amplifying the story.
“Y’all supposed to support me, man. Y’all better take that f**king story down,” he said, specifically calling out one outlet. He thanked fans for backing him, noting, “To the people that knew that this was all cap in the first place, thank you for having my back in the comments.” On X, he later added, “The shit can be damaging. U got people believing the fuckery. Very reckless and im not the one” .
This dispute has roots in old tensions. Kid Cudi and Drake’s 2016 feud over ghostwriting led to Drake’s diss track “Two Birds, One Stone,” targeting Kid Cudi’s mental health, though they later reconciled, collaborating on Drake’s 2021 song “IMY2.” Kid Cudi’s bond with Kanye has also soured, with Kid Cudi recently calling their relationship irreparable over Kanye’s remarks about Virgil Abloh. Consequence, a staunch Kanye supporter, has previously taken shots at Kid Cudi, referencing a 2012 incident involving Diddy allegedly bombing Kid Cudi’s Porsche.
Consequence deleted his Instagram post after the cease-and-desist but hasn’t retracted his claims, instead reposting Kid Cudi’s video with a sarcastic caption about an “Apology Tour” on X, hinting at “receipts” to support his allegations. As of September 18, 2025, no retraction has surfaced, and Kid Cudi’s legal threat looms.
Fans on X are rallying behind Kid Cudi, with posts like, “Kid Cudi responds to Consequence claiming he was the reason the Ye & Drake collab album didn’t happen: ‘I need to get a retracted statement… And if not, you’ll be hearing from my lawyer’”.
