Influencer Livestream Crash: How a Streamer’s Phone Distraction Led to a Car Wreck

Streamer Jackie is speaking out after being involved in a car accident during a live broadcast on the streaming platform KICK, which has since gone viral and sparked a wave of online debate about streamer safety.

The incident occurred on November 7, while Jackie was streaming an IRL (in-real-life) session and chatting with viewers as she drove at night. In the footage, she can be seen discussing whether to grab takeout or make ramen at home while repeatedly glancing down at her phone to read messages from the chat.

Moments later, a sudden thud can be heard on the stream before it abruptly cuts off. “I just hit a car,” Jackie says, audibly startled.

Clips of the crash quickly spread across Reddit, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), with fans and critics alike weighing in. One Reddit user analyzed the footage, estimating that Jackie drove for roughly six seconds — about 40 meters (130 feet) — without looking at the road.

Following the viral footage, KICK confirmed that Jackie’s account had been banned for violating platform rules that prohibit unsafe or illegal activity during livestreams. Before her suspension, the streamer had built a following of more than 9,700 users, and her most recent broadcast had drawn over 400 viewers.

Two days after the incident, on November 9, Jackie shared a statement on social media taking responsibility for the accident and clarifying that no one was injured.

“I made a serious mistake streaming while driving two days ago and caused an accident,” she wrote. “The other driver and I are both fine, insurance is handling it, but I got lucky — this could’ve been much worse. I wasn’t drunk or on anything. I was distracted by streaming, which is inexcusable on its own. I take full responsibility and I won’t be streaming while driving again.”

The video has since become a trending topic across social platforms, with many users calling for stricter safety rulesfor livestreamers. On Reddit, one viewer commented, “Should be perma banned instantly. This is happening more and more with streamers. Someone will definitely end up getting killed if they don’t deter this moronic behavior.”

Others noted that the crash highlights a growing problem in online culture — streamers taking risks to keep audiences engaged in real-time.

Jackie’s accident follows a similar incident last year involving YouTuber and fellow KICK creator Jack Doherty, who crashed his $202,850 McLaren 570S while livestreaming from Miami in October 2024. His cameraman was injured and required stitches, and Doherty was permanently banned from the platform.

The latest incident has reignited conversations about safety, accountability, and responsibility in the streaming world — and whether platforms should do more to prevent distracted or dangerous behavior while live.

For Jackie, who says she’s grateful no one was hurt, the crash has become a turning point.

“I got lucky,” she wrote. “This could’ve been so much worse.”
