Exclusive: Taylor Swift on Travis Kelce’s Eras Tour Disappointment

Taylor Swift thought Travis Kelce was throwing a “man tantrum” when he shared his disappointment about missing a chance to meet her at her Eras Tour concert. In a candid moment on the August 13, 2025, episode of the New Heights podcast, hosted by Travis and his brother Jason Kelce, Taylor opened up about her reaction to Travis’s now-iconic attempt to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number during her July 2023 show at Arrowhead Stadium.

Travis, a star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, attended Taylor’s Eras Tour concert in Kansas City, hoping to meet the pop icon and hand her a bracelet he made, inspired by the Swiftie tradition tied to her song “You’re on Your Own, Kid.” But Taylor’s strict vocal rest protocol meant no meet-and-greet, leaving Travis empty-handed and, as he admitted on New Heights in July 2023, “a little butthurt.” Taylor laughed about his reaction, saying,

“This dude didn’t get a meet and greet, and he’s making it everyone’s problem.”

She found it amusing that Travis didn’t contact her management, instead relying on knowing “the elevator lady” at Arrowhead to try to get backstage.

“That’s how it works in 1973,”

She teased, poking fun at his old-school approach.

At first, Taylor saw Travis’s public comments as bold, even a bit dramatic, but her perspective soon softened. She compared his gesture to a scene from an ‘80s John Hughes movie, like someone holding a boombox outside her window, confessing,

“I want to date you. Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet.”

For Taylor, who’s written songs about longing for such romantic moments since her teens, the gesture felt like something straight out of her lyrics.

“This is what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,”

She shared, her voice warm with affection.

The bracelet never made it to Taylor, as Travis admitted it “didn’t leave the stadium” due to his disappointment. But his decision to share the story on his podcast turned out to be a game-changer. Taylor, who rarely checks social media or DMs, heard about it and was intrigued.

“This podcast got me a boyfriend ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app,”

She joked. She even asked her team if Travis had tried to reach out for a meet-and-greet at another show, surprised to learn he’d been at the concert with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The viral moment caught fire, with fans swooning over the story’s charm. Swifties celebrated the connection, with one fan commenting online,

“It all started with a friendship bracelet and blossomed into a beautiful relationship!”

The story came full circle when Taylor appeared on New Heights to promote her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, set for release on October 3, 2025.

Travis called himself “the luckiest guy in the world,” while Taylor credited mutual connections, like Chiefs coach Andy Reid, for vouching for Travis and easing her initial doubts.

Their relationship, which went public when Taylor attended a Chiefs game in September 2023, has since become a cultural phenomenon, blending music and sports fandoms.
