Eminem’s Rap God Reportedly Packs 1,560 Words Into Just Over 6 Minutes

Eminem’s 2013 track “Rap God” continues to stand as the official Guinness World Record holder for the most words in a hit single, packing an astonishing 1,560 words into just 6 minutes and 4 seconds.

According to Guinness World Records, the song delivers an average of 4.28 words per second across its full runtime. In one blistering 15-second stretch near the 4:26 mark, the Detroit rapper spits 97 words at a rate of 6.46 words per second—a section he himself describes in the lyrics as “supersonic speed.”

The record, first recognized in the 2015 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, remains unbroken more than a decade later. Guinness notes that excluding the 26-second spoken intro (delivered by an unknown vocalist) and roughly 22 background words from Eminem in that section, the rapper still delivers approximately 1,460 words in the remaining 5 minutes and 38 seconds—an adjusted average of 4.31 words per second.

Released on October 15, 2013, as the third single from Eminem’s eighth studio album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, “Rap God” debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 on the UK Official Singles Chart. It marked Eminem’s seventh Top 10 debut on the Hot 100, surpassing Lil Wayne’s previous mark for the most such debuts by a male artist.

The song is packed with dense references, name-checking or alluding to 43 figures from hip-hop history, including 2Pac, the members of N.W.A, Rakim, Run-DMC, Pharoahe Monch, and others, alongside pop-culture nods to Monica Lewinsky, Dale Earnhardt, and more. Its technical showcase helped power a remarkable chart moment: on November 16, 2013, Eminem had four simultaneous Top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead solo artist—“The Monster,” “Berzerk,” “Survival,” and “Rap God”—a feat bettered only by The Beatles among lead artists.

While “Rap God” holds the volume record, Eminem has since set faster pure-speed marks. On Nicki Minaj’s 2018 track “Majesty,” he delivered 78 words in 12 seconds (6.5 words per second). He raised the bar again on 2020’s “Godzilla,” rapping 225 words in 30 seconds for an average of 7.5 words per second—the current Guinness record for fastest rap in a hit single.

Yet for sheer density and sustained output over a full-length commercial single, “Rap God” remains unmatched. The track earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance (losing to Kendrick Lamar’s “i”) and has become a lasting symbol of Eminem’s technical mastery and longevity in hip-hop.
