Bronx drill rapper DThang is free and signaling a major comeback after being released from prison on January 8, 2024. The artist, legally known as Demario Montez Thomas, walked free after being arrested on June 30, 2025, for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

The artist walked free after nearly two years behind bars and is already making waves with new music and high-profile support from industry figures like French Montana. Wasting no time, DThang immediately dropped a new track titled “Last Day In” to mark his return. In a video celebrating his freedom, he told fans,
“Always back, you know the vibes,”
adding,
“I’ve been born to win.”
Showing his unshaken confidence, he also declared,
“My demons, you know the vibes. Can’t stop being this twin.”
Upon his release, DThang was publicly welcomed by French Montana in a gesture of strong industry support.
DThang’s release comes after serving approximately 20 months of a three-to-five-year sentence. He was arrested in May 2022 as part of a major Bronx police operation targeting the River Park Towers (RPT) crew. He was one of 34 individuals charged in a 65-count indictment that included serious accusations of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder linked to gang activities.
Since emerging in 2019 with “Ain’t No Exposing Gz,” DThang has been a pivotal artist in the Bronx drill scene. His use of raw lyricism and nostalgic samples helped define the genre’s sound. Tracks like his 2020 release “Caution” and the viral hit “Talk Facts,” featuring TDOT and Bando, became street anthems. The latter gained significant online attention for sampling Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know.”
While his 2021 debut album, RPT, was eventually removed from streaming services, fans are now eagerly awaiting his upcoming project, Superstar Gzz, expected to drop later this year. Despite the controversy often surrounding the drill genre, DThang’s music continues to offer an unfiltered perspective on life in the Bronx.
