Dubai authorities have formally charged British TikTok influencer Brooke George with premeditated murder after the 23-year-old allegedly fatally stabbed her boyfriend during a confrontation at an apartment in the United Arab Emirates.
George, who has built an audience of nearly 100,000 followers through lifestyle, beauty and lip-sync content, now faces one of the most serious criminal cases under UAE law. If found guilty, she could face the death penalty, with rights advocates warning that execution by firing squad remains a possible sentence. She is currently being held at Bur Dubai Police Station while the investigation continues.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old William “Bill” Treeby, also from Kent, England. According to reports, the couple first connected through Facebook before beginning a relationship that included multiple trips to Dubai. George traveled to the UAE to visit Treeby, but relatives and advocacy groups claim the relationship changed dramatically during her second stay.
Investigators allege the fatal stabbing occurred after the pair returned home from a night out at Caffreys Bar in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village. Authorities say George used a kitchen knife during an argument inside the apartment.
However, George’s legal defense tells a very different story. Her family and the prisoner rights organization Detained in Dubai insist she acted in self-defense after allegedly enduring repeated physical abuse from Treeby. They claim he became increasingly controlling during her second visit, allegedly purchasing only a one-way ticket for her journey, withholding her passport and making it difficult for her to return to the United Kingdom.
According to the defense account, George had been trying to leave the relationship and recover her travel documents when another violent confrontation broke out. She alleges Treeby punched her multiple times, including in the face, leaving her frightened for her safety. During the struggle, she reportedly grabbed a nearby kitchen knife and stabbed him while attempting to defend herself.
Her mother, Thereza George, said she spoke with her daughter shortly after the incident and described her as terrified and emotionally distressed. She also claimed Brooke appeared to have visible injuries, including a severely swollen eye and bruising, which the family believes support her allegations of domestic violence.
Advocacy group Detained in Dubai argues that investigators should treat George not only as a murder suspect but also as a potential victim of abuse. The organization has called for her release on bail while authorities fully investigate her claims of domestic violence, saying any documented injuries and allegations deserve the same level of scrutiny as the homicide investigation itself.
The group has also raised concerns about George’s treatment in custody, alleging she experienced degrading conditions following her arrest. It continues to push for improved access to legal representation, medical care and full consular support from British officials.
The U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed it is assisting George and maintaining contact with both her family and UAE authorities, though officials have declined to comment further because of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Before her arrest, George regularly shared videos on TikTok featuring makeup tutorials, fashion clips and daily life updates. Her final public posts appeared months before the incident, and the case has since attracted widespread attention across British and international media.
Legal experts note that self-defense claims in homicide cases are interpreted differently under UAE law than in the United Kingdom, making the outcome difficult to predict. Rights organizations say the case highlights broader concerns surrounding domestic violence allegations, due process and the legal protections available to foreign nationals facing serious criminal charges in the Gulf state.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Dubai authorities have not publicly commented on George’s allegations of abuse. Further developments are expected as prosecutors continue reviewing evidence and the case moves toward trial.
