Angela Ponce has made history since becoming the first transgender woman to compete in Miss Universe.
Representing Spain, Ponce will appear in the miss universe pageant. Being a transgender model has not been easy for her. In an interview with Time Magazine, Angela Ponce said:
“The fashion industry likes to talk about freedom and creativity. But many times I’ve gone to a casting and they’ve given me the job, and then later my agency calls and says they’ve changed their minds, because they’ve found out I’m a trans woman.”
Despite struggling against trans-phobia, Angela Ponce will starting be competing in the miss universe competition. This is the same organization which once banned transgender women. If Ponce won, it would be a huge accomplishment.
