André 3000’s Killer Mike collaboration almost didn’t happen, but another legend stepped in! One of the best things about OutKast’s 2003 double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was that it was essentially two albums packaged as a single release. Each member of the rap duo released their record, but Big Boi and Andre 3000 also appeared on each other’s projects for a few tracks each.
As a result, the album is one of the most well-rounded hip-hop albums ever made, and a lot of the credit for that goes to the versatile talents of Andre 3000. The rapper is known for his sharp pen game and GOAT-level rapping ability, but he is also a gifted singer with a beautiful voice. He has several ’90s classics to his name, but he’s also proved himself to be a master at pop music.
The Andre 3000 and Killer Mike Collaboration
André 3000 Wanted To Scrap His Feature On Killer Mike’s Album — Until He Heard The Song: André 3000 is set to appear on Killer Mike’s new solo album ‘Michael’ later this month, but the OutKast rapper almost didn’t want his verse on the project. https://t.co/AVDJhZZnrn pic.twitter.com/2LINRCCMtf

Although Speakerboxxx/The Love Below primarily consists of funk and Dirty South party tracks, the album also includes many ballads. The song “Ghettomusick” showcases Andre 3000’s diverse talents with its soulful ballad style and a sample from Patti LaBelle’s music. The singer’s vocals are rich and powerful, and his intricate and precise rhymes. The two rappers make the track their own, and the production by Organized Noize is top-notch.
The Collaboration Almost Didn’t Happen
In a recent Instagram post, Killer Mike teased his upcoming solo project, Michael, with the caption, “All-star lineup coming soon.” The Run The Jewels emcee is expected to release the album this year and is already working on some collaborations for it. In addition to the aforementioned lineup, Mike’s new album will reportedly feature a guest appearance from Lil Wayne and Dave Chappelle. The Atlanta rapper recently held a listening event and performed two new songs, ‘Shed Tears’ and ‘High + Holy’, which he dedicated to his wife.
Killer Mike’s new project will be his first in ten years and is currently slated to drop later this year. He’s been dropping lead singles in the lead-up to it, including ‘Talk’n That Shit!’ with Jamie Foxx. He’s also teamed up with his Run The Jewels cohort El-P for production on the album.
But Then Another Legend Stepped In
Scientists & Engineers is the fourth single from the album to be released so far. In the video for the song, the trio raps about working together on a project. They also mention their past work with each other and other members of the Dungeon Family collective, such as Future and Yung Mazi.
