    73rd Annual ACE Eddie Awards

American Cinema Editors, or ACE, has revealed the winners of its 73rd Annual ACE Eddie Awards, honoring editing in 14 categories of film, television and documentaries. The awards ceremony is held each year at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

Since the turn of the 20th century, the ACE Eddie winner for theatrical drama has gone on to win the Academy Award for Best Editing 13 times. But that’s not been the case in the past three years.

    Best Edited Dramatic Feature

The ACE Eddie Awards announced winners for its 73rd annual event at UCLA’s Royce Hall on Sunday night. The event recognized editors in 14 categories of film, television and documentaries.

Top Gun: Maverick editor Eddie Hamilton took home the coveted Best Edited Dramatic Feature award, while Everything Everywhere All at Once editor Paul Rogers won for best edited comedy feature. Both ACE Eddie winners have been Oscar nominees for their work.

    Best Edited Comedy Feature

On March 5, the 73rd Annual ACE Eddie Awards saw American Cinema Editors announcing winners in 14 categories. The Oscar-nominated “King Richard” won the drama feature category, while “Tick, Tick Boom!” edited Myron Kerstein and Andrew Weisblum took home the comedy honors.

Gina Prince-Bythewood earned the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award, while film editors Lynne Willingham and Don Zimmerman received Career Achievement Awards. The awards ceremony was held Saturday at the ACE Hotel in Los Angeles.

    Best Edited Animated Feature

The ACE Eddie Awards, which recognize editors in film, television and documentaries, recognized “King Richard” as best edited animated feature. The award ceremony took place on Saturday at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles.

The Eddies, a precursor to the Oscars, divide the prizes between dramatic and comedic features. Over the past 30 years, 134 of the 150 Academy Award nominees for best film editing had first reaped an Eddie bid.

    Best Edited Documentary Feature

The 73rd annual ACE Eddie Awards, held March 5 at UCLA’s Royce Hall, rewarded editors for their contributions to film and television. ACE’s award ceremony, which draws more than a thousand of the industry’s best editors and filmmakers each year, precedes the Academy Awards.

Documentaries often deal with sensitive subjects that require a deft and delicate touch. It’s time that the Oscars recognize them more frequently as an important art form.

    Best Edited Television Series

The ACE Eddie Awards took place Sunday at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The 73rd annual ceremony included the Best Edited Television Series awards for television and digitally streamed programs.

Several Oscar nominees earned nominations including Tar, Top Gun: Maverick and Everything Everywhere All at Once in the dramatic category. Among the comedy contenders were Barry, Euphoria and Severance. The Best Edited Limited Series honors went to HBO’s The White Lotus. Also receiving trophies were Vice, Love, Death & Robots and A Black Lady Sketch Show.

    Best Edited Animated Television Series

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) announced winners in 14 categories March 5 at their 73rd annual ACE Eddie Awards. These honors are given to editors who worked on theatrical feature films and animated television series that aired or were digitally streamed in the United States.

Netflix leads the field, taking a three-out-of-five majority in the Outstanding Animated Series and Special Class Animated Program categories. Shows from Apple TV+, Disney+, Nickelodeon and Paramount+ PBS (x2) also made the cut.

    Best Edited Documentary Television Series

In seven of the last 10 years, the winner of the best edited documentary television series went on to win the Best Edited Documentary Feature award at the Oscars. This year, Oscar nominees Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Banshees of Inisherin and Elvis also are up for the Editing trophy.

The ACE Eddie Awards will be held March 5 at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The 73rd annual ceremony will also honor the Sundance Institute and its founding senior director of artist programs Michelle Satter with the Golden Eddie.
