Tensions surrounding the death of rapper Lil Poppa have escalated once again, with the artist’s baby mama, Toie Roberts, publicly accusing his manager of engaging in an inappropriate romantic and sexual relationship with the late Jacksonville star.
The confrontation stems from a recent interview in which Lil Poppa’s manager blamed Roberts for contributing to the rapper’s mental health decline in the months leading up to his suicide. In a viral video response shared on social media platforms on June 30, Roberts, the daughter of rapper Rick Ross, clapped back sharply.
“You fell in love with a young ass boy you were supposed to be managing,” Roberts said in the circulating clip, referencing the manager’s reported age of around 50 and the fact that she has grandchildren.
Lil Poppa, born Janarious Mykel Wheeler in 2000, was signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG label and had been building momentum in the hip-hop scene with his melodic style and introspective lyrics. The 25-year-old passed away on Feb. 18, 2026, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a single-car crash in Georgia. His death was ruled a suicide amid long-standing struggles with mental health, depression, a blood disease and substance issues. According to the manager, who was reportedly one of the last people to speak with him, Lil Poppa’s final words included the phrase, “It’s all y’all fault.”
In the recent interview, which gained traction the manager claimed that ongoing conflicts with Roberts — specifically allegations that she restricted Lil Poppa’s access to their young son, Kofi J’nar (often referred to as PJ) — exacerbated the rapper’s depression and played a significant role in his downward spiral.
Roberts has pushed back against such narratives in the months since Lil Poppa’s death, sharing emotional tributes to the father of her child while requesting privacy and an end to public blame. The couple’s on-and-off relationship, which began around 2022, was frequently documented on social media, including joint appearances with their son, but was also marked by public disputes and diss tracks.
The manager, who spoke at Lil Poppa’s funeral, has been a central figure in discussions around the rapper’s final days. Earlier reports and public commentary had already raised questions about various parties’ roles in supporting the artist through his mental health challenges.
Public reaction to the latest exchange has been mixed, with some siding with Roberts’ accusations of boundary-crossing due to the age disparity, while others emphasize the multifaceted issues — including mental health resources and industry pressures — that contributed to Lil Poppa’s struggles.
