Two unidentified suspects remain at large after a chaotic and ultimately fruitless ATM robbery attempt at a 7-Eleven convenience store in White Settlement, Texas, on Dec. 23.
According to the White Settlement Police Department, the suspects arrived at the store in a stolen SUV believed to have originated in Dallas. Surveillance footage shows one masked individual smashing through the front glass of the store while it was still open, then attaching a metal cable to an ATM inside the building.
The driver of the SUV pulled forward, violently ripping the ATM from its base. The force of the extraction caused shelves to shake and merchandise to fly as the machine was dragged across the floor and out of the store. Authorities estimate the ATM may have contained up to $100,000 in cash at the time of the robbery.
The escape quickly unraveled. As the suspects fled toward Interstate 30, the metal cable snapped, sending the more-than-200-pound ATM flying off the vehicle and onto the side of the highway, where it landed near a culvert. The suspects did not stop and continued driving without the machine.
Police later recovered both the damaged ATM and the abandoned SUV in separate areas of White Settlement. Despite the destruction caused inside the store, investigators confirmed the suspects did not gain access to any cash.
The White Settlement Police Department has released surveillance video of the incident and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects, who were wearing black hoodies, masks, and orange gloves. No injuries were reported, though authorities noted the incident posed a serious risk to anyone nearby.
While the robbery caused significant property damage, police say it stands out for its lack of payoff — a dramatic, high-risk crime that ended with the suspects fleeing empty-handed.
