Rapper YG was behind bars Thursday morning, but it wasn’t for long. California Highway Patrol and Burbank SWAT officers arrested the Compton rapper when they served a search warrant at a commercial property in Burbank, California, on July 23, 2026. However, they soon clarified that YG was not arrested and was released at the scene of the search.
The incident occurred at 7 am. PT at a commercial establishment on the 400 block of Moss Street. TMZ uploaded video footage of the rapper, whose face was not captured on camera, outside the business addressed as 407, where Burbank SWAT officers stormed the establishment. A CHP spokesperson told several media outlets that YG was briefly detained by police when they served the search warrant but was released soon after.
Authorities clarified that YG was not a person of interest. A CHP spokesperson said to TMZ,
“YG was not arrested… he was placed into custody during the search warrant and released.”
Drakeo the Ruler, an American rapper, was stabbed to death at the “Once Upon a Time in L.A.” festival at Banc of California Stadium, on December 18, 2021. The fatal encounter occurred during a large backstage altercation that involved dozens of people. But despite the surveillance footage and witnesses, no one has been arrested for Drakeo’s murder, nearly five years later.
Drakeo’s family filed a multimillion-dollar wrongful death lawsuit against festival promoters, including Live Nation, alleging inadequate security. The civil case continues separately from the police investigation.
YG and Drakeo had a well-documented public rivalry with diss tracks and social media tension. Some reports noted the stabbing occurred shortly after YG arrived at the festival. YG has repeatedly denied any involvement. In a recent track, he addressed the rumors directly, consistent with his long-standing position.
Authorities have said more than once that YG is not accused of anything. Warrants can be issued for cold cases, in order to obtain evidence, even if a suspect hasn’t been identified; it’s standard practice for cases where people or places might have information.
Social media was ablaze at the initial revelation, with many jumping to conclusions before authorities asked everybody to stand down and let official channels take over, cautioning that speculation could lead to jumping to unwarranted conclusions.
The search highlights that investigators continue pursuing leads in Drakeo’s case. YG went on to perform in his Verzuz battle with The Game later that same day. The Drakeo homicide investigation stays open, and no arrests have been linked to this warrant.
