What Happened To Derek Stingley Jr. And When Will He Get Drafted?

Former LSU CB Derek Stingley Jr. just put on a clinic during his NFL’s Pro Day. Although he suffered an injury, he wanted to show the world nothing has changed and he’s still the CB everyone saw and loved.

“Nothing has changed over the past couple of years,” Stingley said. “I’m still me, everything’s gonna be good.”

Stingley is a top ten NFL Draft pick who underwent surgery to repair his left foot, in 2021. Many believe that this would affect his production, especially playing cornerback. However, as he proved during his pro day, that was not the case. According to the school’s data, he recorded impressive 40-yard dash times of 4.37 and 4.44 seconds, along with a vertical leap of 38.5 inches. NFL teams in attendance recorded times between the mid-4.3s and low 4.4s on his first run, according to some scouts in attendance, per ESPN.

At the NFL scouting combine, Stingley chose not to perform in any drills because he felt he was not 100%. He said he just recently has been cleared to do full-speed work around three weeks ago. He speaks to his numbers at the combine and believes that he can perform better and is starting to feel close to 100% as of late.

“I feel fine right now. It doesn’t even feel like I hurt it in the first place,” said Stingley who explained that he originally suffered the Lisfranc injury on the first day of camp.

    Derek Stingley Jr. Draft’s Projection

ESPN’s draft analyst Todd McShay has projected Stingley to be drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 12th overall pick. In 2019, Stingley earned freshman on LSU’s national championship team. Earning second-team All-American honors with six interceptions during the COVID-19 season in 2020.

There’s no secret with Stingley’s attitude towards continuing to play and helping out whatever ball club decides to pick him up.

“They know what I am,” Stingley said. “I just want to be the greatest ever — like, ever.”
