Witnesses have testified in horror about the impact and sound, with one recalling, “I heard a boom, and when I looked out, the whole street was in flames. It was warm.” Video shot with a Ring doorbell camera showed a plane descending at a high velocity before explosion and flame took over.
A terrifying clip shared on social networks reveals a male individual running in a state of disarray, surrounded in a cloud of smoke and flame after an explosion. The authenticity of the clip is in question, but its explicit contents have shocked and amazed many.
Philadelphia firefighters, paramedics, and police rushed in to attend to the disaster. Firefighters struggled to try and bring under control the uncontained fire, and medical workers rushed in to attend to injured individuals. Residents sustained burns and smoke inhalation and were transported in for medical treatment at Temple University Hospital.
The six passengers, four crew, a patient, and an escort, perished in the plane, confirmed authorities. Officials have not yet publicly confirmed the victims’ identities, citing a matter of first notifying respective family and kin.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have both initiated a full investigation in a hope to try and figure out why the plane crashed. Preliminary indications have been that weather, such as a small rain and a high level of cloud cover, could have been involved, but at present, it is too early to make any kind of determination.
Experts will review pilot radio communications, maintenance records, and flight logs of the Learjet 55 in an attempt to try and make sense of a catastrophic failure. Officials request any one with pertinent video clips and information to contact them in an attempt to assist with an investigation.
The city leaders have extended condolences to victim family, with Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney stating, “This is a sad city tragedy. Victim family and all who have been touched in this horrible incident, stand with them.”
Meanwhile, debris is cleared and property is valued in neighboring communities, and in a desperate attempt at searching for a cause for the accident, investigations have begun. There have been an outburst of sympathy, with community leaders holding fund-raising events for bereaved families. The city holds its breath for a resolution, and its citizens hope for a resolution and for justice for lives lost.
