Washington Commanders obtain Carson Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts Carson Wentz was traded to the Washington Commanders yesterday evening. He was traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to the Colts just a year ago, for a first and third-round pick. He was initially sent there to start fresh and attempt to rebuild his career. However, before the Eagles can even use the first-round pick. He’s back in the NFC East for a divisional rival of the Eagles.

Although this may not be ideal for Wentz, he’s set to make history week one for the Commanders. The concerning issue is Wentz has now played for three teams within three seasons, reported Jeff Kerr for CBS Sports . Not only will he become the first ever to take a snap for the Washinton Commanders. But, he’ll also become the first QB since 1950 to start an opening game for three different teams in three years as well.

Will Carson Wentz allow history to repeat itself or will history be made?

On the bright side, Wentz is still fairly young and in his prime. Just nearing 30 years of age, the stats show he’s not as bad as many think he is but he’s not as great as he once was either. Unfortunately, he’s fallen from great quarterback to mediocre at best. In 2020, he was benched in week 13 for Eagles starting QB now, Jalen Hurts.

As mentioned earlier, Wentz’s stats include 3,563 yards thrown, 27 touchdowns, seven interceptions, with a 62.4% pass completion rate. Not to mention, he had a 94.6 passer rating for the season. However, if you break these numbers in totality down, one will see he severely struggled in the second half of the season. His poor played a factor in the Colts ultimately missing the playoffs.

When Colts general manager Chris Ballard and owner Jim Irsay openly conveyed their lack of faith in Wentz moving forward it seems that things took a downward trajectory. Fast-forward, he’s been shipped out to Washington. Hopefully, he can right his wrongs and has a chance to prove he’s a deserving starting QB for the commanders.
