Howard University Marching Band Escorts VP- Elect Kamala Harris
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ escort will be Howard University’s marching band, at the 59th presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.
Howard University announced in a statement that the Showtime Marching Band will accompany Harris. Moreover, the band will perform a special drum cadence for the parade.
Howard University’s President eloquently stated:
“We are honored to be part of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’s historic inauguration,” said Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick. “The vice president-elect has embraced her Howard education throughout her career, prioritizing truth, service, and achieving excellence.” It is fitting that the Showtime Marching Band, representing our institution’s heartbeat, accompanies her on this final leg of her journey to the White House.”
Furthermore, Howard’s band director, Kelvin Washington chimed in:
“We are proud to unite as a band representing Howard University, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, and all HBCUs across the country,” said Kelvin Washington, Howard University’s band director. “It’s a very gracious opportunity for us, and we’re very thankful for it.”
President-elect Joe Biden’s Escort Announced Too
As a matter of fact, it appears that both alma mater’s marching bands will be present on Inauguration Day. For President-elect Biden, that’ll be The University of Delaware.
“It’s not just an honor. It’s also quite humbling,” said Heidi I. Sarver, marching band director for the University of Delaware. “Our students participating in this American tradition is truly meaningful. This inauguration is especially personal for our Blue Hens as we celebrate our alum, President-elect Joe Biden, becoming the leader of the free world.”
Nonetheless, Inauguration Day is shaping up to be an eventful day. Hopefully, people stay safe as they enjoy the day’s events. No more Donald J. Trump in the White House though.
