The British rapper has had seven number-one singles. He’s also a renowned fashion icon and entrepreneur.

    More Than a Rapper Series

Tinie Tempah: More Than a Rapper reveals a different side to the star, who was once a young boy living on a south London estate and growing up in a working-class family.

In a new six-part series for BBC, the musician famous for his hit singles like Pass Out and Written in the Stars instead turns the spotlight on modern-day heroes. Each episode matches a person with an extraordinary story with an artist who will capture their likeness in various artistic mediums.

Taking inspiration from the work of portraiture in the past, each show begins with the sitter telling their story, and then they will visit a studio where they meet the artist who will create their portrait.

The final image is then unveiled to the sitter, friends, and family.

Each portrait is created using various art forms, from underwater photography to street art. Among the people featured in the series is Patrick Hutchinson, a personal trainer from south London who was pictured carrying an injured English Defence League member to safety during a Black Lives Matter demonstration last year.

The BBC has paired him up with painter and street artist Dale Grimshaw who will use a mixture of spray cans and oil painting to capture Hutchinson’s likeness.

The series comprises inspiring stories featuring individuals facing adversity with resilience and unwavering commitment.

Notably featured are exceptional characters, such as a charitable woman providing selfless support for people experiencing homelessness, whilst another character – having traded drugs for over twenty years – now works within our prison system, demonstrating positive change through dedication and hard work.

Also included was an exceptional male caretaker taking charge of his local North London community farm, passionately nurturing its offering as both ecosystem and center-point to his locale’s identity.

For the ‘Ain’t No Love’ singer, these crucial narratives bolster real-life accounts of resilience amidst adversity, offering an invitation to witness an alternative perspective on human struggle.

    About Tempah

In addition to his music, Tempah is an avid fashion lover and owns his own What We Wear label. He was named GQ’s Best Dressed Man in 2012. He is also the team captain on Sky 1’s music/comedy panel show Bring the Noise alongside pop star Nicole Scherzinger.

While the ‘Turn the Music Louder’ rapper is no stranger to television, his most recent role has him stepping into new territory – property.

Tempah has been hosting Channel 4’s Secret Property Investor since September and says he was unsure about doing the show at first, but “once all gigs were canceled during the pandemic, I was in my office at home scratching my head wondering how to communicate this other side of myself.”
