Tina Turner commanded the spotlight with her husky voice and electric stage presence. Her hits included Proud Mary, Private Dancer and What’s Love Got to Do With It.

Turner’s sexy and bluntly worded songs gelled with the 1980s. She became one of the biggest-selling female artists of her time.

The two would receive a Kennedy Center honor and earn several Grammy awards, including eight competitive ones. Turner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice — first with Ike in 1991 and later as a solo artist in 2021.
