On a balmy summer night at Romania’s Beach, Please! festival, 15-year-old Nicolas had a dream come true: his idol, American rapper Destroy Lonely, invited him on stage after spotting a message on his phone. But the euphoria turned to terror when the teenager, not desiring to stage dive, was allegedly shoved from a 10-foot high platform, onto a metal barrier. Now, as Nicolas is hospitalized in an intensive care unit, the accident has spawned outrage, threats of litigation, and an explanation for fan safety while attending concerts.
On July 13, 2025, during Destroy Lonely’s set at the Beach, Please! festival in Costinești, Romania, Nicolas joined the rapper on stage, elated by the chance to meet his hero. According to reports, Destroy Lonely urged the teen to leap back into the crowd, saying,
“You’re going to jump! I need you to jump back to the fans! Are you ready?”
Nicolas, visibly nervous, repeatedly said,
“I don’t want to.”
Despite his protests, the rapper allegedly grabbed his hoodie and nudged him toward the edge. Nicolas fell three meters, crashing onto a barricade.
“When I fell, I thought I was dying. I had no more air,”
Nicolas later told Romanian outlet Adevărul. He suffered a lung contusion, liver damage, kidney injury, and severe pain in his leg and shoulder, requiring intensive care at Constanța County Hospital.
Verified reports confirm Nicolas’s injuries and the sequence of events, with a viral video circulating on platforms like X showing the teen’s hesitation and fall. Destroy Lonely, also known as Bobby Wardell Sandimanie III, is yet to comment publicly on July 14, 2025. The 23-year-old rapper, known for the 2023 hit If Looks Could Kill, was at the center of controversy in the past, for example, unfounded allegations of domestic violence in 2024 and a publicized scandal surrounding his then-girlfriend. The latter is the latest in a long list of controversy, which is fueling calls for explanations. Romanian authorities are investigating, and charges for negligence or endangerment are possibly pending. Nicolas’s mother, devastated, told reporters,
“I regret letting him go to this festival,”
and is suing the musician.
Beach, Please! organizers, led by co-founder Andrei Șelaru (Selly), swiftly condemned Destroy Lonely’s actions as “irresponsible” and banned him from future events.
“We never want to collaborate with this artist again,”
Șelaru stated. To prevent repeats, the festival, Europe’s largest with over 500,000 attendees, introduced a new rule: no fans can join artists on stage, regardless of invitation. This policy shift reflects growing industry awareness of safety protocols, particularly for young fans.
