Streamer Locks Himself in Homemade Jail Cell Until Mom Beats Elden Ring Boss

Twitch streamer Drake Cummings turned a wild internet hypothetical into a full-day livestream spectacle, locking himself inside a homemade jail cell and refusing to leave until his mother defeated Margit, the Fell Omen, in Elden Ring.

The Los Angeles-area builder, who is known by the Twitch name drakecummings, constructed the jail cell as part of his streaming equipment and donned the orange jail clothes. His mother, who had never previously played any games in her life, picked up the controller. The event, which was live-streamed beginning around September 13, 2026, started with a pre-planned 10-hour “sentence,” which would be extended based on viewer activity in the chat room and donations.

As per the reports by Dexerto and consistent reports by multiple gaming news agencies, the mother of Cummings managed to reach Margit after 9 hours of playing. She failed several times in the attempt, and she then took some time to explore other parts of the game, level up and upgrade her equipment, and then came back to finally manage to beat Margit somewhere around 24 hours later. The reported number of dead characters is about 240 when she managed to win.

The cell was a set made with the help of his parents. They used blackened PVC pipes as bars, while plywood sheets created the illusion of concrete blocks. A tiny toilet and a bed made of blankets and cardboard boxes allowed for a continuous view of the monitor, and the camera never left Cummings’ line of sight. He guided her through the bars, demonstrating such skills as shooting, dodging, and blocking. The game was played on a PlayStation 5, which ruled out any chance that it was a form of imprisonment.

The idea came from a TikTok and internet meme (associated with the creator Tensor/Tensor64 and several variations of the video) asking if one would rather serve a one-year prison term or go to jail until their mother finished playing Elden Ring. The latter was preferable for most people due to notoriously punishing gameplay of FromSoftware’s games. Cummings modified the concept, only using Margit the Omen Binder, one of the first significant bosses at the Stormveil Castle, who utilizes quick and powerful lunges and slashes that prove challenging to unprepared players.

The reason for its popularity is pure and simple: an outrageous meme was turned into a viral challenge that involved a degree of both skill and humor. Cumming’s experience on the other side of the bars was enhanced with comedic quips, viewer suggestions, and the ability to witness a complete novice struggling through one of the most difficult early-game encounters in the game.
