NBA YoungBoy Passenger in Utah Traffic Stop Where Drugs Found; No Charges Filed

NBA YoungBoy was not charged following a New Year’s Eve traffic stop in Utah County that led to the seizure of illicit drugs from a vehicle in which he was a passenger, authorities confirmed.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a trooper pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 15 near American Fork around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 for a routine traffic violation. The car had three occupants: a male driver, a female passenger, and NBA YoungBoy (born Kentrell DeSean Gaulden), who was seated in the back.

During the stop, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle and discovered illicit drugs inside. Officials have not publicly released details regarding the type or quantity of the substances. Police said the driver and the female passenger claimed ownership of the drugs, and no drugs were found on YoungBoy or directly linked to him.

As a result, YoungBoy was not arrested or detained and was released at the scene. Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Alexander said charges are being screened only against the driver and the female passenger following consultation with the Utah County Attorney’s Office. While money was also found in the vehicle, investigators determined it was not connected to the drugs.

Local outlets, including FOX 13 and KUTV, reported that under Utah law, being present in a vehicle where drugs are found is not sufficient for criminal charges without evidence of possession or control. As of Jan. 1, 2026, YoungBoy faces no charges related to the incident.

The stop comes amid a long history of legal scrutiny for the Baton Rouge rapper, who has lived in Utah intermittently since 2021. In November 2024, YoungBoy pleaded guilty to reduced charges tied to a prescription drug fraud operation in the state, resolving a case that initially included dozens of counts. He has also faced federal firearms charges in recent years and has been arrested numerous times since his teens.

Despite his legal challenges, YoungBoy remains one of hip-hop’s most commercially successful and prolific artists. He consistently ranks among the top performers on streaming platforms, with more than 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and continues to release music at a rapid pace.

News of the traffic stop spread quickly on social media, prompting a mix of relief, jokes, and indifference from fans. This reaction reflects YoungBoy’s polarizing status in rap culture, where his turbulent personal life often intersects with his chart-dominating output.
