Anika Rashaun, the MTV personality who appeared on Real World Seattle: Bad Blood and The Challenge, died Oct. 1 at the age of 34 after a battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She would have turned 35 on Oct. 22.
Rashaun first appeared on television in 2016 as a cast member of Real World Seattle: Bad Blood. At the time she was 24 and described as a Pace University graduate from Harlem with ambitions of becoming a host. The season paired cast members with people from their past; Rashaun’s counterpart was her former boyfriend of three years, Will Groomes. She returned the following year for The Challenge: Invasion of the Champions, where she was eliminated in the third episode.
After leaving the reality-TV circuit, Rashaun worked as a matchmaker and dating coach. She founded the lifestyle and relationship brand ASKANIKA and released an e-book on modern dating. Friends later described her as someone who took unconventional risks, including moving to Thailand on her own and going skydiving on a first date.
In the summer of 2025 she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Her longtime friend Tiara Ramos later wrote that the diagnosis was unexpected, noting that although Rashaun’s mother had previously had breast cancer, Rashaun had not been identified as high-risk or advised to prioritize mammograms. The two co-hosted a podcast, Breast Friends Forever: BFFs Battling BC, discussing their experiences. In October 2025 Rashaun shared on social media that her tumor markers had declined.
On Feb. 14, 2026, she married Kyle Walker-Rehn in San Marcos, Calif. In an Instagram post roughly two weeks later she wrote that the day “was literally a dream filled with the best moments” and that she and her husband “couldn’t imagine a more perfect day.” The couple had been married for approximately seven months at the time of her death.
Ramos confirmed the news in a Substack essay published Oct. 5 titled “Breast Friends Forever: RIP to my Sister.” She described a friendship of more than 20 years, calling Rashaun her “other half” and writing that Rashaun was “always so unapologetically herself” and fiercely loyal to those close to her. Ramos detailed shared history that included supporting each other through family health crises and said she intended to continue advocating for breast-cancer research in her friend’s memory.
On Oct. 23, former Real World and Challenge castmate Theo King-Bradley posted a tribute on Instagram. He wrote that he had struggled to process the loss and expressed regret that he did not see her one last time, while recalling conversations in which she was direct with him and memories from their time on the shows and a trip to Thailand.
Additional tributes appeared around what would have been Rashaun’s 35th birthday, with friends describing a life marked by full schedules, loyalty, and a willingness to pursue experiences others might avoid. Her death follows the August 2026 passing of another Real World and Challenge alum, Tyler Duckworth, who died at 44.
