A 33-year-old former music teacher in Western Australia has pleaded guilty to 15 serious child sex charges after DNA tests proved she gave birth to a baby fathered by her 13-year-old former student.
Naomi Tekea Craig taught music at Frederick Irwin Anglican School in Mandurah, about 45 miles south of Perth. She admitted everything in court back in late January. The case has been all over the news here and even caught attention in the States because people are still shocked by these teacher-student stories.
The abuse continued in 2024 when the boy was only 12 years old and continued for about 14 to 16 months until December 2025 when he was 13 years old. Craig was arrested on January 6, 2026, by the Child Abuse Squad of the Western Australia Police while she was already on maternity leave. Two days later, on January 8, she gave birth. The police conducted DNA tests, including the placenta, and it confirmed that the 13-year-old boy was the biological father.

On January 27 and 28, she pleaded guilty to all charges through audio link from the Mandurah Magistrates Court. In Western Australia, age of consent is 16 years old. Therefore, nothing that occurred was legal, period. The charges included multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child (some of which occurred when the boy was under 13 years old), engaging in persistent sexual conduct a child under 16 years of age, indecent dealings with a child under 13 years of age, and possession of child exploitation material.
This started out in the Magistrates Court, which handles the early stuff, then it’s been fast-tracked to the District Court for sentencing on March 27. The most serious counts carry up to 20 years, but actual sentences in these kinds of cases usually land lower especially with an early guilty plea. It’s a far cry from some U.S. states where a teacher in the same situation could be looking at 25-to-life. Her teaching registration has already been cancelled.
Everything in the court record checks out: the guilty plea, the DNA match, the birth date all confirmed by police and the court. No corrections or retractions anywhere. Sure, there’s been a ton of chatter on X and Facebook about double standards in how these cases are covered depending on the gender of the teacher, and people speculating whether the boy will ever get hit with child support when he turns 18. That’s all just online opinion none of it is part of the official case.
What this really shows is how easy it can be for abuse to slip under the radar when it’s happening inside a trusted private school like Frederick Irwin. The kid was a former student, the teacher was in a position of authority, and it went on for well over a year. It’s a reminder that schools need rock-solid safeguarding, mandatory reporting, and zero tolerance no matter how “nice” the teacher seems.
Craig is still on bail with strict conditions until sentencing next month. All of this comes straight from police statements, court appearances, and verified reporting no rumours, no extras.
