Marcus Jordan, the 34-year-old son of NBA legend Michael Jordan, was arrested in Maitland, Florida, on February 3, 2025, facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), cocaine possession, and resisting arrest. The incident has shocked many, given his privileged background and high-profile family connections.
According to police reports, officers responded to a call at around 1:14 a.m. about a luxury sports car stranded on the tracks near Greenwood Drive and Mechanic Street. When officers arrived, they found Jordan behind the wheel of the blue Lamborghini, appearing visibly intoxicated.
“I stood at the window and immediately detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle,”
One of the arresting officers stated in the affidavit.
“The driver had slurred speech, red bloodshot eyes, and seemed confused about where he was.”
Further investigation showed Jordan’s car having supposedly run off in a direction towards Seminole County Sheriff’s deputies mere minutes before getting wedged in. According to reports, Jordan instructed officers that he took a wrong turn and required assistance getting his car off the rails.
Jordan admitted to officers that he had been out drinking at multiple venues, including Rachel’s Gentlemen’s Club in Casselberry, a popular strip club in the area. His troubles didn’t stop at the suspected DUI. Officers found a small plastic bag with a white powdery substance in his pocket when officers searched him. Field tests confirmed the substance was cocaine.
The situation soon took a violent direction when Jordan fought when officers moved in to apprehend him. Jordan resisted arrest when, according to police, he extended his legs to stop the closing of a squad car door. Despite fighting, Jordan was transported to Orange County DUI Center.
On the way to the detention center, officers noted that Jordan continued to exhibit signs of intoxication. The police report stated that the car began to “smell strongly of alcohol,” and Jordan sang the entire way to the facility, further slurring his words.
Marcus was taken into custody and booked at the Orange County Jail, with a bond set at $4,000. While he has not publicly addressed the arrest, his mugshot quickly circulated online, showing a visibly distressed expression.
This is not Marcus Jordan’s first encounter with the law. In 2012, he was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska, for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest during a brawl in a hotel parking lot. According to a report at the time, when taken into custody, Jordan was “very animated, intoxicated, and uncooperative.” That matter was resolved with a plea bargain, with several of the charges reduced.
More recently, in 2024, Marcus gained notoriety for suspected use of drugs at a French vacation retreat. Despite no charges ever having been formally filed, the incident prompted concern about his behavior and life style.
Marcus followed in hoops in his dad’s footsteps—but not precisely at the same level. Before becoming an entrepreneur, he played college hoops at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He began Trophy Room, a high-end sneaker store in tribute to his dad’s name. Despite early success at the store, Marcus’s life in the public eye overshadowed career work many times over.
Social media flared when news of Marcus’s arrest broke, with reaction swinging between alarm and disappointment. Fans condemned him for contrast between lavish upbringing and ongoing run-ins with the law. Others even questioned Michael Jordan, not a fan of public life, and how he’d respond to this newest development.
Despite the public scrutiny, neither Marcus nor his representatives have released an official statement. Michael Jordan has also remained silent, opting to keep family issues private.
With charges of DUI, cocaine possession, and resisting arrest, Marcus could be facing serious legal consequences. If convicted, he could see jail time, probation, or mandatory substance abuse programs. The case remains under investigation, and more details may emerge as it progresses.
