Lyft Driver Uses AI-Generated Image in $75 Fake Damage Fee Scam

A Florida Lyft driver has been permanently removed from the platform after allegedly submitting AI-generated photos to support a fraudulent $75 damage claim against two teenage passengers.

The incident took place on May 16, 2026, in Boca Raton, when two sisters, ages 14 and 15, daughters of local resident Bert Gor, took a Lyft ride home from the beach. Shortly after the trip ended, Gor received notification of an additional $75 cleaning fee, with the driver claiming the teens had left fries, a spilled drink, and stains in the backseat.

When Gor requested evidence, the driver provided photos through Lyft showing what appeared to be food debris and a yellow stain. However, the attempt quickly unraveled when one of the daughters spotted the Google Gemini AI logo in the bottom-right corner of at least one image.

“Dad, that’s AI,” the teen reportedly told her father upon noticing the watermark.

Gor promptly disputed the charge with Lyft, pointing out the clear signs of artificial generation. The company reviewed the case, confirmed the photos were fake, refunded the $75, issued an apology to the family, and permanently banned the driver from the platform.

“Lyft takes damage disputes seriously and reviews each matter based on the available information,” the company said in a statement. “We have reviewed the rider’s concerns, offered reimbursement, unpaired the rider and driver, and addressed the matter directly with the driver.”

The incident has fueled online discussions about the challenges rideshare companies face in verifying photo evidence during the current AI era, where convincing fakes are becoming easier to create but, as this case demonstrates, not always easy to execute without detection.
