Louisiana Nurse and Drag Performer Dustin Clark Charged With Infant Skull Fracture Abuse

A nurse working in labor and delivery out of Monroe, Louisiana, got arrested recently after a five-month-old baby he was looking after ended up in the hospital with a cracked skull. Local cops say it looks like a clear case of abuse.

The guy, Dustin Clark, who’s 30, was picked up by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office on September 16, 2025. From what the court papers say, he’s looking at three serious felony charges second-degree cruelty to juveniles, plain old cruelty to juveniles, and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment thrown in.

Cops figure the injury happened a couple days before that. The little one was first checked out at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop because of some bad swelling on the head, then they rushed the kid to a bigger trauma center up in Shreveport for better treatment.

Clark’s bond got set at $15,000. Folks over at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, where he was a nurse in the maternity ward, told reporters he’s not working there anymore since this all went down.

Digging into the arrest docs that KNOE News got hold of, it seems the whole thing kicked off on September 14 while Clark was watching the five-month-old. He apparently told investigators he got fed up with the baby’s crying and hit the child. The day after, a buddy stopped by Clark’s place, saw something was off with the infant, and got medical help. They went to a doctor first, who sent them to Morehouse General, where the staff spotted the swelling and suspected a skull fracture. By September 16 or 17, the sheriff’s office had him in custody, saying the injuries screamed non-accidental trauma. They’re keeping quiet on how the baby’s doing long-term, out of respect for the kid’s privacy.

That top charge, second-degree cruelty to juveniles, is no joke under Louisiana law (check La. R.S. 14:93.2.3)it’s when someone intentionally or just criminally sloppily mistreats a kid and causes major bodily harm or brain issues. If he’s convicted, he could be looking at up to 40 years doing hard time.

The other charges, like cruelty to juveniles and the domestic abuse one, come with their own jail time and fines, showing how seriously the state takes protecting kids.

Doctors always say stuff like head injuries in babies are huge warning signs for abuse, especially since they’re not old enough to get into accidents on their own.

The CDC calls out Abusive Head Trauma or what some people still call shaken baby syndrome as a top killer in child abuse cases across the U.S. There’s this study in StatPearls that says about 20% of skull fractures in infants tie back to abuse, which just drives home how bad these situations can be.

Babies under a year old are super fragile their skulls aren’t fully hardened yet, and one rough moment can mess up their brains for good.

Down in Louisiana, the Department of Children and Family Services deals with thousands of these reports annually. The state’s got one of the worst records for kid abuse hospitalizations in the country.

People who advocate for kids blame it on things like not enough staff, overloaded workers, and the high poverty levels that pile on the stress leading to neglect or worse.

Some experts are quick to point out that throwing in irrelevant stuff about someone’s gender identity or ties to the LGBTQ+ community can really mess with how people see a case like this. Child-welfare folks told reporters,

“We gotta keep a person’s alleged crimes separate from any stereotypes or political spin.”

Clark’s arrest really spotlights how serious infant head injuries are and the big responsibility that comes with caring for them. The facts we know paint a picture of some heavy alleged abuse, but all the online rumors flying around remind us we need to stick to what’s proven, not guesses.

While this plays out in court, the main thing everyone’s focused on is making sure that baby is safe and gets better
