One of the leading figures in the world of hip-hop is set to be given one of entertainment’s greatest accolades. The New Orleans-based rapper Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., better known by his stage name Lil Wayne, has been chosen for induction to the Hollywood Walk of Fame class of 2027, Recording category.
The official announcement took place on July 23, 2026, at a press event held at Funko Hollywood. The list includes 32 celebrities nominated out of hundreds of candidates. This is the official selection, not the public unveiling. Recipients typically have up to two years to schedule their ceremony, and no date has been set yet for Wayne’s star, which will join more than 2,700 others on Hollywood Boulevard.
Wayne’s reaction was pure Weezy. He took to X and wrote:
“Ok so my brother is Fabian right, and he play too fkn much like brothers do….this man just told me that it’s been confirmed that im getting my own star on the Hollywood walk of fame!!!! Wtf boy!! This man play too much bruh! U serious boy??!?!?!!?”
Longtime collaborator Fabian Marasciullo delivered the news, and Wayne initially thought it was a prank before the reality sank in.
Such lack of faith in the future significance of the artist is totally comprehensible in view of his already great significance for the world of music. Wayne made a name for himself while still a teenager by being a part of a rap group called Hot Boys under Cash Money Records and later embarked on a solo career with the same label. He has been able to record many hit albums throughout his career, including his album “Tha Carter III” that was able to sell more than a million copies within a week and got him recognition as a nominee for the Grammy Award; he has been able to get 5 Grammy Awards overall. His number-one albums on the Billboard 200 are 5, and his global sales exceed 120 million. He owns the Young Money Entertainment record label where he launched the careers of such internationally acclaimed artists as Drake and Nicki Minaj.
His star power is such that he can be mentioned in the same breath as music legends. Wayne has joined an elite group of artists set to be inducted into the 2027 class of the Recording Academy’s Hall of Fame. The short list of the candidates includes 10 music creators: Karol G, Grandmaster Flash, Sia, Smashing Pumpkins, Linkin Park, David Guetta, The Ramones, Marc Shaiman, and the late Waylon Jennings. The process of selection takes place through a peer-voted ballot, which means any artist who meets the criteria can receive a nomination from colleagues, who then evaluate the candidates and present their recommendations to the board of directors at Hollywood Chamber for final approval.
For many fans, the recognition feels long overdue. Wayne’s star will stand as permanent proof of a career that moved hip-hop from the streets of Hollygrove to the center of American popular culture. When the day comes for the unveiling, Hollywood Boulevard will get a permanent reminder of one of rap’s true architects.
