Lil Poppa’s Son Heartbreaking Gravesite Visit on 4th Birthday

A deeply emotional video of late Jacksonville rapper Lil Poppa’s young son visiting his father’s gravesite has gone viral, prompting an outpouring of grief and renewed conversations about the lasting impact of loss, mental health, and chronic illness.

The video, which has circulated widely across social media, shows the rapper’s 4-year-old son spending part of his birthday at his father’s gravesite, where he receives a toy gift. Throughout the footage, the child can be heard softly repeating the words, “I miss him,” while standing near the headstone.

The heartbreaking moment has resonated with thousands online, with many expressing sympathy for the young boy and his family. Others reflected on the devastating ripple effects that suicide leaves behind, particularly for children growing up without a parent.

Lil Poppa, born Janarious Mykel Wheeler, died on February 18, 2026, at the age of 25. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a suicide caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an incident in the parking lot of a hotel near Atlanta. Authorities said the rapper had been involved in a minor single-vehicle crash before contacting his manager, who met him shortly afterward. He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

His death shocked the hip-hop community, particularly because it came shortly after the release of his single Out of Town Bae and less than a month before what would have been his 26th birthday.

Throughout his career, Lil Poppa earned recognition for his introspective lyrics and emotionally honest storytelling. The Jacksonville native first gained attention with early mixtapes before signing with Interscope Records in 2019. He later joined Collective Music Group, the label founded by Yo Gotti, in 2022.

His projects, including Blessed, I Guess, Heavy is the Head, and Almost Normal Again, explored themes of pain, loyalty, trauma, and perseverance. Songs such as Eternal Living, featuring Polo G, and Love & War helped establish him as one of the emerging voices in Southern hip-hop.

Behind the music, Wheeler openly battled sickle cell disease, a chronic condition that often caused severe pain and frequent hospitalizations. He also experienced significant personal tragedy, including surviving an earlier shooting that claimed the lives of two close friends. Many fans have since pointed to those hardships as factors that likely contributed to his emotional struggles.

Following his death, tributes poured in from artists across the industry, including Yo Gotti, Boosie Badazz, Mozzy, Nardo Wick, and Lil Baby. Hundreds of fans also attended his public funeral in Jacksonville, where he was laid to rest.

The recent gravesite video has once again brought attention to the human cost of the tragedy. While many social media users focused on the visible grief of the child, others emphasized the importance of addressing mental health challenges and supporting families coping with profound loss. Some commenters also criticized Wheeler’s decision to end his life, arguing that his son would now grow up without his father, while others urged compassion for someone who had struggled with chronic illness and emotional pain.

Lil Poppa shared his son with Toie Roberts, the daughter of Rick Ross. The boy’s emotional birthday visit has become a powerful reminder of how loss continues to affect families long after headlines fade.
