Lil Durk Delivers Uplifting Message While Behind Bars

Lil Durk is expressing gratitude and hope from behind bars.

The Chicago-born star, who turned 33 this week while in federal custody, shared a heartfelt message with fans and supporters, opening up about personal growth, faith, and his desire for peace — both for himself and his hometown.

“I don’t have all the words, but I’m thankful to still have a voice,” Durk said in a phone message that has since been widely shared on social media. “Thankful for everyone who stood on love when things got heavy. I’m working on myself, working on peace, and hoping the city feels that too.”

Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, has been in federal custody since October 2024. He’s currently awaiting trial on conspiracy and murder-for-hire charges in connection with a 2022 shooting that left Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson — cousin of rapper Quando Rondo — dead. Prosecutors allege Durk financed and organized the attack, claims he has denied. His trial is expected to begin in early 2026.

Despite the serious charges, Durk’s tone was optimistic.

“I’m doing better, man,” he told fans. “We all got second chances… When I get out of here, inshallah, I’m going to lead by example. I want to go over there and see y’all and be with y’all. Get y’all brothers all together. I love y’all.”

In the years before his arrest, Durk had begun shifting his message — speaking out about the importance of leaving violence behind and using his platform to inspire young people in Chicago. His latest message continues that evolution, emphasizing self-reflection and his hopes to “lead by example” when he’s released.

After his words circulated online, fans and fellow artists flooded social media with messages of support, sharing love and encouragement under hashtags like #FreeDurk and #PeaceForTheCity.

“Durk’s message really hit home,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “He’s showing growth, even in the hardest situation.

For many supporters, the rapper’s reflection offers a rare look at his mindset during a difficult chapter — one that blends accountability, faith, and a desire to use his experience for something greater.

While Durk remains in custody and continues to maintain his innocence, his message underscores a recurring theme in his music and public life: redemption.

As he said in his birthday message, he’s focused on “working on peace” and hopes that his city and he can move toward healing together.
