Vó do Céu, the beloved Brazilian grandmother who became a late-in-life social media sensation known for her comedic reactions and enthusiastic food videos, has died at the age of 106.
The influencer, affectionately nicknamed “Grandma from Heaven,” passed away on May 15, 2026, in a hospital in her home state of Ceará, Brazil, days after suffering a fall that resulted in a head injury and subsequent cardiac arrest.
Her granddaughter, Imaculada Moura, who managed the popular Instagram account @ima.moura08 (which boasts over 355,000 followers), shared the news in an emotional tribute posted on May 19.
“ My little grandma fulfilled her mission here on Earth and today went to live in heaven… she became the most beautiful and perfect little star for me,” Moura wrote, adding that she would never forget her grandmother’s advice and teachings delivered “always with a lot of wisdom and meaning.”
Born in 1919, shortly after the end of World War I, Vó do Céu would have celebrated her 107th birthday on June 21. Hailing from Quixadá in the Sertão Central region of Ceará, she lived through more than a century of Brazilian history as a devout Catholic and dedicated family woman. She is survived by one son, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In recent years, Vó do Céu found unexpected fame through short videos posted by Moura that captured her sharp wit, playful personality, and joy for simple pleasures — particularly food. Clips of her reacting with delight to meals of rice, beans and pasta, along with candid family moments, resonated with millions and turned the nonagenarian and centenarian into one of the world’s oldest internet influencers.
