Hero Dog Eeyore Guides Deputy to Rescue 86-Year-Old Woman in Florida

In a touching show of loyalty and quick thinking, a dog named Eeyore became a hero in Destin, Florida, after leading a sheriff’s deputy to his missing “grandmother” who had fallen during their evening walk.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on September 25, when an 86-year-old woman took her son’s 100-pound dog out for what was supposed to be a short stroll. When she didn’t return after more than an hour, her husband called for help.

“She just takes that dog, but she never takes more than 10 or 15 minutes,” the husband told responding officer Deputy Devon Miller, according to body camera footage later released by the sheriff’s office. “It’s almost an hour now.”

Deputy Miller began searching the neighborhood and soon spotted Eeyore wandering alone in the road, still wearing his leash but with no owner.

“Hi! Where’s your mommy?” Miller can be heard saying in the video. Without hesitation, Eeyore turned and began walking away, prompting the deputy to follow. The determined dog led her through a front yard and onto a nearby golf course.

“He practically dragged me to her,” Miller later said.

Moments later, Miller found the elderly woman lying on the sidewalk, conscious but unable to get up after a fall. The deputy called for paramedics and stayed with her until help arrived.

The woman was stunned to learn how she’d been found. “He came up to your car?” she asked the deputy. When Miller explained, the woman smiled and praised her furry rescuer.

“Good boy! Very good boy,” she said in the footage. “I’m not even his owner—I’m his grandmother. Oh, Eeyore, you’re such a good boy. Grandma loves you.”

Paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital, where she was treated for a leg injury that officials said was not life-threatening.

The sheriff’s office later shared the dramatic bodycam video on October 6, captioning it, “Sometimes heroes come with four legs and a wagging tail!” The footage quickly went viral, drawing thousands of comments from people touched by the dog’s loyalty.

Deputy Miller, who has been with the department since 2023, was also praised for her quick response and for trusting Eeyore’s instincts.

The sheriff’s office said the woman is recovering well — and that Eeyore has earned extra treats for his bravery.

“Dogs have always been called man’s best friend,” one commenter wrote. “Eeyore just proved why.”
