Here Are 7 Of The Biggest Moments From The 2022 Emmys

TV shows come and go all the time. Unfortunately, showbiz is a hard trade to break into. While there’s always some debate over which shows should stay or go off the air, only the mighty few ever remain! Furthermore, the Emmy Awards do their best in determining which shows deserve an award. Some choices may be questionable, but this year’s ceremony had some good nominees. Moreover, hit shows like Squid Game and Abbot Elementary received major nominations. On top of that, the 74th Emmy Awards packed tons of unforgettable moments! Here are 7 of the biggest highlights from the 2022 Emmys.

    Kenan Thompson’s Dig At Netflix

The 2022 Emmys wouldn’t be an award show without a little bit of comedic relief. Afterall, one of their biggest categories includes comedy TV. This year, SNL’s Kenan Thompson was selected to host the Emmys from September 3 through the 12. Though, Thompson’s jokes for the night were anything but harmless!

In fact, the SNL producer took a huge dig at Netflix. Furthermore, the comedian opened for the ceremony with an eye-popping interpretive dance and a monologue about Netflix‘s alleged financial problems. “If you’re clueless about ‘Squid Game,’ it’s the competition you join when you’re drowning in debt and desperate for cash!” quipped the comedian. Kenan Thompson didn’t hold back during the event.

    Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Moving Speech

already a winner. Furthermore, the actress manifested her good fortune after taking home an award for “Supporting Actress In A Comedy.”

Though, the biggest moment came during Ralph’s speech, when she sung the opening to Dianne Reeves timeless song “Endangered Species.” After her powerful rendition of the song, the Abbot Elementary actress encouraged audiences to follow their dreams, no matter what challenges lie ahead. Arguably, Sheryl Lee Ralph should’ve won several awards just for her speech alone!

    Abbot Elementary Scores Big

Speaking of Abbot Elementary, the comedy show won for “Best Writing In Comedy.” The show’s creator Quinta Brunson made this good-natured ABC workplace sitcom into a huge hit. More importantly, it’s the second time a black woman has won the award. Back in 2017, Lena Waithe took home the first Emmy in the same category for her tv show Master of None. Hopefully, more black writers continue to change the name of the game.

Zendaya Adds Another Emmy To Her Wall Of Success

The Emmys got even better after Zendaya took home two awards for the night. Though, the actress’s biggest win came when she won for “Best Actress In A Drama” for her role in the HBO series Euphoria. That girl can do it all. She slayed on the red carpet for the Emmys this year and even took home another round of awards.

The White Lotus Shut Down The Show

Another groundbreaking show became The White Lotus after taking home a total of 10 Emmys. Moreover, the beloved drama series broke the record for taking home the most awards out of any other series.

Though, several of those awards went to the people who helped bring the show to life. The show’s creator and director, Mike White, took home 2 Emmys that night for “Best Directing and Writing.” Additionally, actors Murray Barlett and Jennifer Coolidge took home acting awards.

Lizzo Calls For More Representation In Pop Culture

As of late, Lizzo has been dishing out powerful speeches right and left at award shows this year. The 74th Emmys this past week was no different. Furthermore, the artist took home her first Emmy award for her hit show Lizzo’s Watch Out For Big Grrls. During her acceptance speech, she called for more representation in pop culture.

“As a child, I longed to see someone like me in the media. Someone who was big, Black, and beautiful, just like me.” Lizzo eventually became her own hero, taking on the role of an idol. In a sense, Lizzo has been an advocate for a lot of women, giving them the courage and strength to love their bodies and themselves.

Squid Game Made History At The 2022 Emmys

There was tons of history being made at this year’s Emmys awards. Not only did four Black women take home Emmy awards but so did Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae. In addition, the star made history by being the first actor from a foreign-language show to win the “Best Actor in a Drama” award. Additionally, the series alone took home four awards such as guest stars, stunt production design and visual effects. By Squid Game being an international hit, it’s hard not to see why it wouldn’t make history.
