The 30-year-old female police officer was ambushed when she tried to pull into a garage early morning on August 3, 2025. People leapt out of a white vehicle and started shooting at her when she was pulling into a garage. She returned her shots, suspects fled the scene, and thankfully she only got a tiny gash to her hand from shattered glass. They brought her to the hospital to just.

It happened around 6:13 a.m. in the 4800 block of South Bishop Street. The officer was easing into the garage when this white sedan cruised by. Several masked people hopped out and unleashed gunfire toward her spot. She returned fire right away. The shooters piled back into the car and sped off. Later, firefighters spotted a burned-out white vehicle nearby, and cops are looking into whether it’s the same one. The officer wasn’t hit by any bullets thank goodness but that glass injury was enough to send her for medical observation. No one else got hurt, and as of today, September 19, no arrests have been made.
On September 18, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) put out some surveillance videos, 911 calls, and other docs related to the case. The footage shows the sedan pulling up, three people getting out, and then shots being traded while the officer was bringing down the garage door. COPA mentioned that third-party cameras caught the whole thing, and they’re releasing it all under the city’s Video Release Policy.
“Preliminary info suggests this kicked off when an off-duty CPD officer was parking and got confronted by several armed guys from a sedan,”
COPA stated. They’re asking anyone with tips to hit up their hotline. The CPD and COPA are involved with the investigation, and by policy, the officer’s been assigned desk duty for 30 days.

Considering at a larger scale, police records from Chicago show shooting incidents decreased in August 2025 when compared to the previous year 176 to 232 during 2024. Nationally, FBI reports from 2024 flagged ambushes as a big risk for cops, and unions along with oversight groups are saying these kinds of surprise attacks are on the rise this year. This shooting lines up with ongoing worries about officers being targeted and the persistent issue of gun violence in cities.
