Wu-Tang Clan legend Ghostface Killah has revealed that he was quoted $150,000 for a guest verse from Lil Wayne while working on his long-awaited new album, Supreme Clientele 2. The disclosure came during his recent appearance on Shade45’s Disrespect Radio, where Ghostface recounted the backstory of the track “Candyland.”
Originally, “Candyland” was intended to feature Mac Miller, a close friend and collaborator of Ghostface. After Miller’s tragic death in 2018, sought a new voice for the record and reached out to Lil Wayne’s camp.
“We tried to reach out to Wayne and from what I’m hearing, it might not have even been him,” Ghostface explained. “They asking for like $150,000. I’m like you know what man, just knock it out yourself. That’s rap shit, n****s be talk talk talk. It’s the worst.”
Ultimately, Ghostface delivered the verse, keeping the record aligned with his raw, uncompromising artistic style.
While the six-figure fee might surprise some fans, Ghostface’s experience reflects the reality of the modern feature market, where top-tier rappers routinely command premium prices for collaborations.
- Lil Wayne: $150,000 per verse
- Kendrick Lamar: $250,000–$400,000
- Nicki Minaj: Up to $500,000
- J. Cole: $2,000 per word
- Snoop Dogg: $250,000 for a verse, plus $250,000 for music video appearances
For Ghostface, who came up in an era where collaborations often formed organically, the quoted price underscored a broader generational shift in hip-hop.
Older fans often value features as expressions of creative kinship, while younger listeners see them as strategic business investments that can drive streams, playlist placements, and market reach. In this sense, a $150,000 feature can be viewed not as excess but as a return-on-investment strategy in the streaming age.
Despite the missed opportunity with Wayne, Supreme Clientele 2 boasts an impressive guest list: Nas, Raekwon, GZA, Method Man, Conway the Machine, Styles P, and M.O.P. Released on August 22, 2025, through Nas’ Mass Appeal Records as part of the Legend Has It… series, the album carries the weight of its iconic predecessor while pushing Ghostface into new territory.
The project, primarily produced by Sean C & LV, includes 22 tracks, with “Candyland” as track 18.
Ghostface has also expressed interest in working with contemporary stars, singling out Tyler, the Creator for praise. After hearing Tyler’s “Ring Ring Ring,” Ghostface compared the production to Michael Jackson and suggested he’d welcome a collaboration.
