Former Patriots LB Willie McGinest Arrested in California

This past weekend, the New England Patriots legendary LB Willie McGinest found himself on the wrong side of the law. Monday morning, he was arrested in Los Angeles, according to Bleacher Report. Sadly, a video was displayed incriminating the two-time pro bowler. McGinest began approaching a man who was sitting at a table in a lounge in West Hollywood, California. Prior to the altercation, it appears these two gentlemen exchanged words. One can assume, these words may have not been too friendly toward one another.

Although McGinest appeared to throw the first punch, the gentlemen in his entourage began jumping in as well. These gentlemen have remained unidentified, per sources. Throughout the video, it also shows McGinest picking up a bottle before nailing the guy in the head multiple times.

“We are aware of the incident and the concerning video. Willie McGinest will be temporarily absent from NFL Network as we conduct a review,” stated an NFL Network spokesperson to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.

Naturally, he was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Later, he was released for making bail that was set to $30,000, according to Sadi Dean for USA Today. Not to mention, McGinest turned himself in to the police after the incident occurred.

    Willie McGinest’s NFL Tenure

McGinest had a 15-year NFL career spanning from 1994 to 2008. He dedicated 12 seasons to the New England Patriots, followed by his final three seasons with the Cleveland Browns. During his time in New England, McGinest achieved three Super Bowl victories and earned Pro Bowl honors twice (1996 and 2003).

He later joined the sports media shortly after his retirement. He’s currently a sports analyst for the NFL Network.
