With the rap scene experiencing a huge influx of female rappers, it seems women have taken over the music industry. Everyone from Nicki Minaj to Ice Spice has been raking up the charts like the badass stars they are. Even so, emcees continued to die right and left. Recently, HipHop legend Gloria Rodriguez aka Hurricane G, passed away from Lung Cancer.
Hurricane G Passed Away From Lung Cancer
So many emcees have been taken away this year, whether from gun violence or natural causes. This past weekend, Hurricane G passed away at just age 52. However, no one has identified the exact cause of her death.
Her daughter Lexus revealed on a social media platform in May that her mother had stage 4 Lung Cancer. Unfortunately, the news that her mother passed away left Lexus devastated. “I’ve never felt so disconnected from reality in my life,” her daughter wrote on social media. Hopefully, Hurricane G’s daughter finds peace in this difficult time of grieving.
The Female Rapper Left Behind A Huge Legacy
New rappers come and go like a revolving door all the time. Although some rappers have standing power and their music will forever remain timeless. Furthermore, Hurricane G left behind a considerable legacy for herself and other female emcees to follow. The 90’s star rose to prominence after being featured on Redman’s 1992 hit “Tonight’s da Night.”
She eventually dropped her debut record, All Woman, in 1997. Additionally, she posed in magazines beside some of the biggest female emcees at the time. Hurricane G wasn’t just our run-of-the-mill artist; she had something new to offer. That especially became clear after she demonstrated her ability to rap in English and Spanish.
Furthermore, her death has shocked the world of HipHop. The tributes have been rolling in for the last few hours for the trailblazer. R.I.P. to Hurricane G.
