The Florida-based rapper and TikTok star, best known as half of the Island Boys duo for their viral hit “I’m an Island Boy,” has sparked outrage with multiple videos featuring his son, who has health issues. While some praise Fly Soulja for defending his child against cruel online comments, others claim he’s using the baby’s distinctive appearance to boost his online presence.
Fly Soulja’s son, who reportedly spent over a month in the neonatal intensive care unit and has kidney problems, has been the subject of harsh social media comparisons to the character ET from the 1982 movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Comments like “Bro is ET’s baby not yours” and “What planet is it from” have flooded platforms like TikTok and X. In response, Fly Soulja posted a video holding an ET doll next to his son, declaring,
“You think my beautiful baby that I’m holding right now looks like this? He doesn’t look like this.”
He added,
“Stop talking about my son like that, man. Do you understand me? I’m gonna get mad, and man, when I get mad, you don’t want to see that side of me.”
Despite his efforts to shield his son, the frequency of these videos has fueled accusations of exploitation. Critics argue that Fly Soulja’s repeated posts, even those defending his child, are a deliberate attempt to capitalize on the baby’s appearance for views. Some fans have called for Child Protective Services (CPS) to investigate, pointing to the sheer volume of content featuring the infant. A post on X amplifying these concerns racked up over 2.3 million views, intensifying the backlash.
However, supporters see Fly Soulja as a protective father fighting against online hate. They note that he and the child’s mother, Kayla, regularly take the baby to doctors, showing care for his medical needs. In one video, Fly Soulja addressed his son directly, saying,
“Alex, you think you look like this? He doesn’t even think he looks like this.”
Yet, critics point to Fly Soulja’s history of controversial stunts, like provocative content with his twin brother Franky, as evidence of a pattern of chasing viral attention. Some also allege he’s neglected his older daughter since the baby’s birth, further stoking criticism.
