Erykah Badu Stars in Black History Month Facebook Watch Special
Erykah Badu talks about Black history and the future of Black music in a new video from Facebook Watch’s Black History Month series, “Forward: The Future of Black Music.”
Facebook Watch celebrates Black History Month, showcasing the significant contributions of the Black community to music and our ongoing influence in the industry. The four-part special aired last week, and new episodes continue to release on Tuesdays and Fridays.
“Forward: The Future of Black Music” is inspired by the TV series Iconoclasts. It offers viewers a chance to be a part of a musical experience with a legend and their successor.
Badu and Nwigwe Discuss the Show
She says, “Tobe, my good friend Dave Chappelle brought you to my attention, and I thought, ‘you’re awesome!'” Nwigwe shares that the conversation between the comedian and Badu inspired his song, “I’m Dope.”
In the clip, Badu breaks down the lyrics of his song. She explains that she first wondered how someone could turn that into a catchy song.
Nwigwe explains, “It’s about anyone who built something from scratch, with their skills, talents, or visions… It shows that it’s possible.” Then, in a heartfelt moment, Badu thanks Nwgie for his song and its meaningful message.
Guest Appearances on Forward: The Future of Black Music
