Eminem’s Daughter Hailie Jade Shares Her Thoughts on “Somebody Save Me”

Eminem’s daughter, Hailie Jade, has recently given her views on the newest music video from her father entitled “Somebody Save Me.” The single was released a little while ago and has created much controversy. It features Jelly Roll from his twelfth studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). The video includes a few very personal themes that have left so many people worldwide relating to this song. In a candid discussion during her podcast, Just A Little Shady, Hailie went deep into the emotions stirred by the video and the creative process of making a visual accompaniment.

The music video was released on August 21, 2024, and was directed by Emil Nava. It’s so introspective. Levels of home footage are mixed with those from Hailie Jade’s podcast, “Just a Little Shady.” Viewers are pulled further back into the past of Eminem, to an alternate reality where he never got over his addiction to prescription medicine—a near-fatal overdose he faced back in 2007.

Hailie Jade recently shared her thoughts on the video in a podcast episode. While analyzing the video, she experienced stirring moments of pride and sadness. She liked the raw honesty of the portrayal and the guts it takes to share such a story about her father with the world. Hailie claimed the video viewing was very emotional for her.

“It’s hard to see those memories play out, especially knowing how close he came to not being here with us today,” she said. Her voice, typically assured and jovial on the podcast, was now reflective as she shared her thoughts. “I’m so proud of him for having the guts to share so much of himself like that. At the same time, it’s heartbreaking—just brings back a lot of memories from that period.”

The song in and of itself is an explicitly personal account of Eminem’s relationship with his family in the wake of his former drug addiction. From a hypothetical vantage point, where he died before Hailie’s graduation ceremony, the lyrics show spoliation and longing. Eminem provides verses dedicated to each of his children, Alaina, Hailie, and Stevie, in which he apologizes specifically for what they have had to go through because of his addiction.

“He’s always been about telling the truth in his music,” Hailie said. “But this time, it feels even more personal because it’s not just his story—it’s our family’s story too.” The decision to incorporate her podcast into the video was a way to bridge the gap between Eminem’s past and present, showing how his experiences have shaped the man he is today. “It was important for him to show that he’s still growing, still learning, and still trying to make up for lost time.”

Hailie also touched on the importance of connecting with their fan base.

“Dad has always been dedicated to his fans, and he wanted to give them something real that would touch them on a deeper level,” she explained. “That’s why the lyrics in this song are so powerful. He’s speaking directly to people who might be going through the same things he did.”

He gets an opening call from his children, one of whom is Alaina, which does set the tone. This touch of informality underlines the intimacy of his struggles and how they weigh directly down on his family life. The song’s story is very cautionary in showing that addiction can affect not only the person himself but also the people surrounding him.

Watching “Somebody Save Me,” Hailie swallow-hardened a mix of emotions: pride for the depth that would someday be covered and sadness for all her dad’s pain.

“Seeing the video reminded me of how strong he is,” she said. “But it also made me think about everything we went through as a family.”

The title “Somebody Save Me” literally is a cry for help, voicing Eminem’s inner struggle and giving credence to why it is important to reach out for a helping hand in fighting personal demons. Having Jelly Roll, who has battled addiction himself, brings just more weight to this message by really driving home that very important point of asking for help as one step toward healing.

Hailie Jade has, in so many ways, been a constant fixture in her dad’s music all these years; she gives her views on deep emotional themes concerning their relationship in this song. Eminem comes to face his misdeeds of the past and how his addiction struggles have affected his family, more specifically Hailie. He feels ashamed about missing important events regarding her life, like playing the first guitar recital or on the day of her marriage, saying squarely, “I don’t even deserve the father title.”

“Somebody Save Me” is loaded with wafting words when Eminem feels sorry for being a bad father and for his addiction, which generally pained him. He speaks of wanting to be a better parent and feeling awful about the times he was absent. The song comes off as a confession, a plea for redemption, as it shows his vulnerability and love for Hailie.

Hailie Jade has grown up in her dad’s music, often acting as both inspiration and a direct feature within his songs. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, mentioned Hailie many times in his lyrics, painting the picture of a close bond between them but also feelings of regret over his past substance abuse woes and how that affected his family.

Beyond the emotional depth of “Somebody Save Me,” Hailie also spoke about what it was like to grow up as Eminem’s daughter. Defying those tribulations, she has carved out her identity as a social media influencer and podcaster. Since July 2022, when Just A Little Shady came into being, Hailie has used the platform to share both her experiences and insights, often reflecting on what it’s like to grow up in the public eye.

“People always ask me what it was like growing up with him as my dad,” Hailie said. “And it’s hard to explain because, to me, he’s just my dad. But I also understand that he means a lot to a lot of people, and that’s why it’s important for me to share my side of the story too.”

Although extremely private, Hailie has been in the limelight with her dad. One particularly memorable public appearance was at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in November 2022; she took a seat next to Eminem as he was being inducted, and viewers could express their strong bond right then. It showed everybody how close family members can remain amid everything going on in life as celebs.

Hailie Mathers attended a Detroit Lions game where she cheered her father on as he performed during the halftime show with 50 Cent. She shared her excitement in a post, stating that seeing him perform was special. “It felt like a full circle moment for me,” said Hailie, reflecting as it had been quite some time since seeing Dad perform. Hailie Jade has a podcast with her friend Brittany Ednie called “Just a Little Shady.” She talks about her life, criticizes pop culture, and throws shade.

This includes things like growing up as Slim Shady’s daughter, stories from childhood, and what’s been going on lately in her life. As Hailie Jade matured through the years in the public view, her reflections behind “Somebody Save Me” reflect a more genuine inside glimpse at personal and creative growth on Eminem’s part. This latest release reflects Eminem’s artistic development and highlights Hailie’s rising role in sharing their family story with the world.
